Oh, hey! Any recommendations on what strings I might wanna put on this Goth? I'll be looking for a bright set of .045 - .105's... and yes, price is a factor.

I don't have Black Beauties on my 'bird but I do have them on a FSO and they are greatI have NYXLs on mine and love the sound. I may try black beauties as they are well recommended for `birds.
I'm bound to suggest Rotosound RS66s -- always, always, always used them -- but the strings that came with the NRBird are nice. I think they are either Ken Smith Rock Masters or Bass Burners. @Dadagoboi will confirm.
That's a two year old set of nickel 45-105 Ken Smith Bass Burners. THEY sound to me more like the original early 70s (which were only available in nickel) Rotosound 'Swing Bass 66' than current RS product does. Silks on both ends, of course. About $20 new.
As a cheaper alternative I'd recommend Dunlop Super Brites or the old standard, DAD EXL 165
Is there a set or stock measurement for pickup height on an Epi bolt on or is it more just try it till you like it.IMO, the pickups are way too low in those Epi bolt ons. Raise 'em, using foam or a block of wood if necessary. You'll get more snarl the higher you raise them.
It's another tone thing, so just try it till you like it.Is there a set or stock measurement for pickup height on an Epi bolt on or is it more just try it till you like it.
Glad to hear about your wife. Sorry to hear about your mom though, at least the birds are helping you out.Good Lord, nearly 500 pages since my last post, there's no way I'm catching up on that! I hope everybody is well and thriving
Not got a lot of time now for the internet as my mother (dementia) is demanding all my time but just a note to say all is well here in sunny Wales (I lie, it's pissing down really). The birds have been a Godsend over the last few months for stress relief, noodling in the garden in the sun when I get 5 minutes to myself . If you remember my last post was back in March when my wife was having her thyroid removed because of potential cancer, well it turned out to be the case but thankfully she was given the all clear yesterday so a big relief there.
Wonderful news on the health-front for Wendy, Colin. Sorry to hear about your mom.
Here's the 500 pages you missed in a nutshell.
Lots of new members.
Lots of new and new to them basses purchased.
Epiphone is putting out a Vintage Thunderbird which will be available in a couple of weeks.
Lot of questions about what strings are best.
Lot of questions about what amps are best.
Lot of posts about what cabinets are best.
Kat got a Cataldo... ohhh, you probably don't know Kat. She'll be by soon.
You're welcome.

If you want bright, Dunlop Super Brights are on sale at www.bassstringsonline.com right now due to their moving sale. They carry a huge selection of strings and can make recommendations to you as well; just ask. I've bought tons of strings from them over the past few years, and they give VIP pricing to TH members. They're great.Oh, hey! Any recommendations on what strings I might wanna put on this Goth? I'll be looking for a bright set of .045 - .105's... and yes, price is a factor.
I thought that was scratches on the second pic, almost had a heart attack. Looked closer and it was just the reflection of the books.

I tried to like Roto's, but my alien acid sweat kills them in about 2 songs.
Will be looking to try those Dunlop Superbrights.

Same for me, they'd lose all their brightness very quickly, like in a week. I like Ken Smith a lot when I can find them, DR Stainless are more common around here. DRs are a bit bright at first but settle in and have that "piano" tone and keep it much better than Rotos. That said, I love Rotos on my Greco, they're perfect on it.
