This was before I had even laid a finger on 'er!
I think this was "Johnny's first bass" or sup'm, cuz this thing looks BRAND NEW! I'm thinkin' it was purchased, brought home, & set in a stand until they decided to sell it. Not a scratch anywhere! I had to clean cobwebs out from between tuning pegs. The strings are dead, but don't have any gridue or corrosion on them. no fret-wear that I can see. This thing would pass for NOS easily!

What makes you think it makes more? Had one scoped?
I don't. I just read that you need something like 800 watts to be a bass player. 200 is plenty for me. Muffin tone? I kinda like that! There's a hint of Frank Zappa humor in there, and it makes me happy.

First impressions as far as neck for your hands?
It certainly seems to fill the hand more than the Gibson and the Epi that I checked out locally. Of course I would like more, but I can work with this fo sho! It's juicier than the FSO that I had before it, and I luv luv LUV the nice satiny finish! I've already decided to throw in the towel with regards to finding my fantasy neck, until I have a fantasy budget to work with. This feels as good or better than anything else I've tried since this adventure began. I'mma hafta dig out the guitool box & tweek it some. The action is sadder than a bag of orphans & I'm thinkin' there might be a burr on the saddle or somethin' cuz I'm gettin' a li'l "zorp" on the G string that is not fret-related, and the nut still looks new. I know jack friggin' squat about electronics, bit I'm gonna peek in the cavity & see if there's something obvious that might be causing the surprisingly low output. Y'all said these Goths had dark tone, and you weren't kiddin'... but there's nothin' here I can't work with. The bridge pickup is well... "different". Again... nothing I can't work with, but I was playing with my fingers... but it sounded quite "picked" (which is a kinda bonus, cuz I can't stand using a pick on a bass). I can't really do a good review until I get some new strings & give it a good set up, but all the important stuff I can't fix myself or with the help of a friend, is sexy, solid, and best of all... MINE!!! ;):):D:laugh::cool::woot::thumbsup:

IMO, the pickups are way too low in those Epi bolt ons. Raise 'em, using foam or a block of wood if necessary. You'll get more snarl the higher you raise them.

Bird, case and FREE cat toy!
A long time ago, I had a Kay upright bass that I got for $150 because it had escaped from the NYC department of schools. I guess they put it out to pasture because it was so beat up. It had a note engraved by the tuning machines that say NYC 1950, so I assume it was a 1950 Kay. It was absolute junk, but it was my upright. It got hauled from New York to Seattle when my wife and I moved out here, and I did a whole lot of work on it, trying to get it playable. That included resetting the neck, making parts for it when this or that broke off, doing bondo work on the delaminating plywood body, and all kinds of other stuff. I wanted to paint it electric blue or something.

We also had a cat at the time. His name was Dick the Cat, for reasons which can be left for another time. I got the bass in pretty good shape after a while, but Dick decided to climb it. Bad idea. It fell, and broke. So I fixed it. Dick, who was usuallly the most polite possible cat, decided to climb it again. This happened a couple more times, and I finally gave up.

So, that's my bass and cat toy story. Cat + bass isn't a great combination.
