Thunderbird Club

Kind of the same scenario with that pic of the A5's.
There was actually another pair of the A5's buried in a corner because we hadn't finished the studio as of that time.
But we were Altec hounds, also really dug the older Urei and Hafler stuff.
Also had an old Altec 1220 board.
There was no Acoustic gear to be had at all, (or barely any when in Portland), circa 2003.
I don't think there's any Acoustic gear to be had at all anywhere, except when I decide to look for something or another. Then it crawls out of the woodwork. Small powered PA board? Sure, got one of those, made by Acoustic. I have never seen another one of those, either. It turned up cheap when I was looking for a small board for the music room and it gets used for all kinds of things. Go figure.

Sounds like a good problem to have!

Oh Lord..!

Haven't been checking in for two days, and now there are 30 pages to read!!!
Ya I just turned off the email notifications, at this point I know if I haven't checked it in an hour there's going to be posts. I don't need a thousand emails a day telling me someone posted on here. Maybe an email notification if no one posted for over 3 hours would be more useful.

No big deal. Mostly rants about how great obsolete Acoustic Design equipment is...

There's a reason no one was using them by the mid 70s. They sound entirely different 40 feet out than they do on stage and totally screw with a mix in most venues. An original fridge sounds pretty much the same on the stage and in the back of the room. Ask a sound man which he prefers.

But what do I know? I only started playing a B-18 in 1965, moved on to an SVT with two Sunn folded 18 cabs in the early 70s and by '77 was playing three Sunn Coliseum heads, three original fridges and a brand new, immediately modded, '77 TBird.

And BTW, a 4-10 cab moves much more easily than anything larger when equipped with that recent invention...the wheel. Especially when used in the proper configuration. Once again, only if you believe the laws of physics.

GTFO my lawn and carry on, Acoustic fanboys

What is this "wheel" of which you speak? Some strange sort of witchcraft?:D

Another cool old pic!

So, after looking at this beauty, and trying to decide what new Epi color to go with, i gotta say, i'm leaning towards the Alpine White.

Do you have the power to make a decision like that without clearing it with the Chechen mob first?;)

I know this doesn't help at all... but black or white... ya can't go wrong either way!

:roflmao:
I'm kinda wondering if there's an opinion in there somewhere. Can you clarify?
:roflmao:

The crazy thing is that an original 360 was only rated at 200 watts. Watts that ate their spinach apparently.

That works too.

@ProgressiveDoom, the 'no tone controls' thing is functional for me - if I don't ever use them there's no point in me having them. They're just clutter and something with the potential to go wrong, or to get knocked, or, or, or ...

Doesn't necessarily work for other people. That's life.
Oh for sure that extra pot, knob and cap take up waaaaay too much space and make the bass soooooo heavy plus the extra wiring is potential for an electrical fire.............:roflmao:.

Not possible unless you are willing to concede the sonic of characteristics of a folded horn vs an infinite baffle. I eventually came to prefer punch and articulation to what we used to call 'muffin' tone. Apparently most of the bass playing world (PA, too) has done the same. I've restrained myself from making comment until today, when I don't particularly give a flying fork.

What makes you think it makes more? Had one scoped?
