Thunderbird Club

I don't know for sure. I have had good results with Cobalt Flats. Just make sure you don't get 'em too light or they will be way too floppy. They are easy on frets, and they are bright. I get a pretty good angry piano out of the '91 with those strings. It has Chinabuckers on it for now, until I get around to getting Thunderbuckers for it.

I tried the cobalt flats and they just tore up my fingers. That relieved my desire to try the cobalt rounds.

I'd appreciate that. It'll give me a little time to think about it.

I should have the weight posted by 3 PM EST.

If it had tbird pickups it would be on its way by now. I already have a couple of P/J basses.

The only reason I still have it is because of the P/J config. but even now that's not that compelling any longer. Solid bass but don't need it for the collection nor for being a music room rock star. I have my Gibsons for that. :roflmao: Rock star? I wish... :roflmao:

The more I think about it, the more I'm more inclined to give it the 3 day rule. And if it's gone, it's gone.

Famous last words. ;)

Hmm 45 minutes from home. Think they have an STV head there as well....

The dangers of posting up Thunderbirds in this forum.

Tempting little thing, isn't it?

It is a solid bass and I'm not negative on it at all. BTW, I can be tempted to part with mine. :smug:

Good Lord, nearly 500 pages since my last post, there's no way I'm catching up on that! I hope everybody is well and thriving

Not got a lot of time now for the internet as my mother (dementia) is demanding all my time but just a note to say all is well here in sunny Wales (I lie, it's pissing down really). The birds have been a Godsend over the last few months for stress relief, noodling in the garden in the sun when I get 5 minutes to myself . If you remember my last post was back in March when my wife was having her thyroid removed because of potential cancer, well it turned out to be the case but thankfully she was given the all clear yesterday so a big relief there.
We haven't "met" yet... but I feel for you and yours. Wonderful news about your wife! Stay strong. Hopefully we'll get to see more of you around here soon!

If you want bright, Dunlop Super Brights are on sale at www.bassstringsonline.com right now due to their moving sale. They carry a huge selection of strings and can make recommendations to you as well; just ask. I've bought tons of strings from them over the past few years, and they give VIP pricing to TH members. They're great.
Thanks man! I'll bookmark their page, but this time I gotta shop local. My wait just ended. I ain't awaitin' no mo!

Speaking of temptation, just not sure if it is powerful enough.
Look at this on eBay Peavey Tour VB-2 bass amp, bass head, all tube, 225 watts, excellent condition! | eBay
225 tube watts can be plenty depending on the cab you use. I regularly use a 150 watt tube hybrid amp with a Bergantino HT322 cab (very efficient, ported 112,210,horn tweeter cab) and have no problems holding my own in medium (150 person bar) and even large (500 person dance hall) venues. Besides there's usually PA support on bigger gigs. I really only find myself using my big rig for outdoor events or large venues with no PA or FOH.

Using a GK with 4x12 ported and 2x10 front facing

If price is a factor absoutly contact TB member Bassstringsonline and ask him for the lowest cost set of bright sounding strings he has. He'll take good care of you and you'll be a customer for life. I get all my strings there now, best prices and best selection anywhere.
Someone mentioned DR Black Beauties - great strings and I'd bet they'd look and sound killer on a Goth but they aren't known for being a bright sounding string, actually they are quite the opposite. I don't normally go for bright strings but the brightest I've tried were Cobolt Rounds, not the cheapest string out there but a very unique and authoritative sound that I suspect would really make the Goth a screaming grind monster.
I gotta get this set locally. I can't stand the wait! I'll definitely be looking in to Bassstringsonline for future purchases though! Thanks!

I'm looking for a sharp, bright string to help offset the depth/darkness of the tone of this Goth. I was gonna go straight for Kat's recommendation until I read what @JJR58 had to say about acidic alien sweat (yet another trait that leads me to believe that he & I were separated at birth). I'm lookin' at stainless for brightness & longevity. That leaves me with D'Addario ProSteels, EB Cobalts, and DR Hi Beams & Fat Beams. I'm leanin' towards the Hi Beams...

I have HiBeams on the 2015 right now. I think they are HiBeams. They may be SunBeams. I don't remember now. They started out a little zingy and are settling in. I had an awful time getting everything to sound right last night until figuring out that I had the compressor settings screwed up. Then it sounded like a 'Bird.

Pretty sure the Hi Beams are brighter then the Sunbeams.
