Sounded fantastic today. Digging the DTFs on it and the ABM.

Normally I use the Ampeg, but I changed the tube in the ABM from an old RCA long black plate to an old Mullard and am liking the ABM even more. Still tweaking the EQ a little. The pic was from the RCA.
Ashdown & G&L for the win! :bassist:

Sorry Mike

Watching a doc about the turbine race cars - ... Started around the time I was born outside of Omaha (where I grew up) at Offutt AFB. (Strategic Air Command) The early '70s "combo" I played bass in played at the officers club at Offutt AFB a few times.

"Sacfireboid" made me think of this thread...

Brought a Tobias Growler (Gibson era model) home to try, a friend lent it on spec. I think it's not a rock machine, too sweet- though super easy to play. I like the easy part, but digging in doesn't do that thing I want to hear... No growl! I'll try it in a band mix at Wednesday's rehearsal I guess. It just has a vibe that is not something I've ever gotten hooked up with: That electric jazz thing. Adult pop, like Little River Band, etc. Things that don't have the tone of more aggressive, forward bass playing to me as much as skillful noodling. I hear Jeff Berlin playing one in my mind's ear...
But now that it's here I suppose I should give it the full round of tests. It does have some fairly impressive tone tweaking ability with the Bart preamp, and the dual coil control of that p'up.
Any of you all ever played one of these? I know Chris Squier liked his...

I like the volute! But that thin upper horn kinda bums me out... Trying to see if that gets upstaged by some outstanding cool aspect. Live mix coming, then maybe it goes home.

... However, this is a really nice player... The New Orleans funk/blues thing is where this would play nice...
And me just wanting one bass. Hmm.

I didn’t remember or realize you grew up at a SAC base.

Here's where I'm at currently, I'm finding that dialing the bass back is resulting in a lot more clarity of individual notes in the room and especially with the band, by itself it's not that bassy "bedroom tone". I'm listening to a lot of Duran Duran lately, I sure like John Taylor's playing and tone, "Rio" and "New Religion" are nice workouts for my 67 y.o. fingers.

Thanks. I need to experiment with cutting the 100Hz a little and where that goes. I either leave it at -0- or boost a slight bit.

Yes, this right here ^^^
Bass guitar is really all about mid-range fooling the ear into thinking it hears "bass". As long as you're not trying to play guitar, you're generally going to come off as playing the bass, and the booty will move accordingly!
I like a hefty punch in the lows too, but pulling the focus into clarity (mid-range) instead of trying to move earth has caused the onstage murk to clear, and focus to come into my bass lines. Also adding an hpf has been a big deal.
I don't want to be front and center anywhere! But I do want to take part in what I'm involved with musically.
Anyway, spiel over! Just trying to be affirmative! ✊😎
