Near SAC AFB - it is just outside of Omaha. I bought my 1st bass at a shopping mall near there.I didn’t remember or realize you grew up at a SAC base.
Yes, this right here ^^^
Bass guitar is really all about mid-range fooling the ear into thinking it hears "bass". As long as you're not trying to play guitar, you're generally going to come off as playing the bass, and the booty will move accordingly!
I like a hefty punch in the lows too, but pulling the focus into clarity (mid-range) instead of trying to move earth has caused the onstage murk to clear, and focus to come into my bass lines. Also adding an hpf has been a big deal.
I don't want to be front and center anywhere! But I do want to take part in what I'm involved with musically.
Anyway, spiel over! Just trying to be affirmative!![]()
It's not a bass design I'm personally drawn to, but I can see the thought process behind designing it which addresses ergonomics.I like/don't so much like it! The neck though...
Interesting, I'm going through something similar, although always a moderate drinker, I started cutting back because of age and not enough cardio, I was getting a bit of a paunch. Now, a year later, unless at practice where I have 2 beers, or at a party or casino, I don't really enjoy drinking anymore. Not really; just a conscious effort to cut down on consumption.
Lots of love for John Taylor in the Aria Pro 2 club thread! Here's where I'm at currently, I'm finding that dialing the bass back is resulting in a lot more clarity of individual notes in the room and especially with the band, by itself it's not that bassy "bedroom tone". I'm listening to a lot of Duran Duran lately, I sure like John Taylor's playing and tone, "Rio" and "New Religion" are nice workouts for my 67 y.o. fingers.

The night at the Hotel Utah did require hearing protection in the upper balconyYep, I’ve been really trying to dial back bass and therefore maybe push a bit more volume to keep up with and be heard over distorted guitars and maybe too much cymbals. All without muddying thins up. Although I’m in to loud bands, we always “try” to keep it under control, without losing the energy. Just the right amount of “loud” can be tricky in all the small places we get to play. An HPF is part of my chain and helps a lot.
Thanks. I need to experiment with cutting the 100Hz a little and where that goes. I either leave it at -0- or boost a slight bit.
It wasn’t until I got the TT and read the manual several times that I began to understand what a HPF brings. Since I still only play at home, I’m not taking full advantage of that and the amazing things that amp can do for tone with both channels which have distinctly different tone stacks. Other features like the ability to run it at 2 Ohms to push earlier breakup at low volume is simply magic. Not to mention the mid-shift feature and the symmetry control.Yes, this right here ^^^

Watching a doc about the turbine race cars - ... Started around the time I was born outside of Omaha (where I grew up) at Offutt AFB. (Strategic Air Command) The early '70s "combo" I played bass in played at the officers club at Offutt AFB a few times.
"Sacfireboid" made me think of this thread...

Pics of settings are a good friend.Like my Trace Elliott, I'm finding that small adjustments can really make a difference with this amp, my only gripe with it is that not all the knobs have detents and can easily move around, so after moving the amp I always have to carefully look at the setting to see if they're where I left them.
That is a good idea.Pics of settings are a good friend.
There’s a hack some players use with little “O” rings under the knobs that some players swear by to add a bit of friction to help maintain settings. Just a thought.
Yes, they move so smoothly they move very freely. More resistance would help. But they do feel nice. Someone (BuddahF possibly?) suggested adding felt washers behind the knobs. My Ampegs don't turn nearly as easily as the Ashdown's do.Like my Trace Elliott, I'm finding that small adjustments can really make a difference with this amp, my only gripe with it is that not all the knobs have detents and can easily move around, so after moving the amp I always have to carefully look at the setting to see if they're where I left them.
Interesting - I was in KC/MO in the '70s and in Chicago from '78-'88. Haven't been back to Omaha for years, I'm sure it's changed a lot.We were neighbors.
I lived in Ralston through the 70's to 82, and had a number of friends who worked at Offutt/SAC in my high-school and post-HS days.
Neither have I for a decade, but Im sure it has.Interesting - I was in KC/MO in the '70s and in Chicago from '78-'88. Haven't been back to Omaha for years, I'm sure it's changed a lot.
We had a few kids at Vandenberg whose dads were at Offutt for a time.We were neighbors.

Add breathing apparatus and that would make a hell of a Thunderbird finishing suit.

It very much depends on the music. You’re right about a good bit of music but some stuff (early Allman Brothers & Skynyrd leap to mind) are all about the low end.Yes, this right here ^^^
