Thunderbird Club

I'd say mahogany, but what kind of mahogany is available? Mahogany has pores and it's a lot of work to get them filled. That's why many newer Gibsons have that thin "didn't even try to fill the pores" finish.
I love my alder body 76 Ripper, and my alder Pbass body is great. If it's getting a solid colour, I'd go with alder.

True, i hadn't thought of that. My plan is indeed solid colour (all white, headstock included) & while i don't think i'd mind an open pore look, maybe its something to consider if the open hog would absorb too much of the white before i actually see a solid finish or not.

Thanks for the view!

What says the Kingdom; As my Gibby 60s RI pickups are for a future Vintage 60s-70's tribute thunderbird build, i'm contemplating two potential body woods. Go classic Mahogany, or opt for Alder. I'm most likely going stealth bolt-on construction (ferrules instead of a neck plate),

Reason of asking is I've a 75 Grabber bass which is alder body, & that thing roars (it is also light due to the body depth of 1.25"), & I know some epi bolt on birds were alder, others like my goth are a very soft mahogany, which well mine's been through much hell of breaking/cracking.

Thanks a bunch!
Alder. Just because.

I guess this isn't surprising:
‘That’s like a stadium-sized amount of alcohol:’ Australian fans nearly drain Vancouver pub

When I was much younger, I went on tour to Oz with the rugby club I played on. It was when airlines would give you booze. We drained the Quantas 747's bar between LA and Honolulu. They refilled and we drained it again before Sydney. There is nothing quite like 35 really big, really drunk, kinda crazy guys on a plane for a zillion hours. I was on somewhat better behavior because my girlfriend, now wife, was with me on the trip.

love that story......on a ferry ride from Tarifa Spain to Tangier, Morocco (late 80's) which takes about 2 1/2 hours on the big semi carrying ferries when a group of Finnish cyclists (big dudes) doing a loop became aware brandys (Spanish) were 70 cents (100 pesetas) a pop.... needless to say not a single Finn got off the ferry which continued it's daily routine back to Spain undisturbed....

I’d go mahogany if that was a realistic option.

Alder is pretty heavy I think? There is also Basswood for light weight - though I don’t know what the general consensus is on it. There seems to be quite a lot of electric instruments made from it.

Considering this will be a thunderbird, Basswood will definitely dive & ding more than the other woods xD. I had considered Cherry or Walnut too. I may opt for Alder, but poll still goes on. thanks for the input!

Happy Thursday!

Here is someone's take on a NR Bird. Guard is wonky IMO but it has a graphite neck.

Custom NR Bird
LOL - that is a butt ugly pick guard, but the neck and reverse headstock looks interesting (except for that weird attachment on the back - is that a hoot-n-nanny strap pin?).
I will say I had to do a double take on the headstock brand name, for a split second I thought it said Fecal…

This one looks interesting and odd as well

“Seasons in the Sun” I remember. Kind of depressing IIRC.
Then there was "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O' Sullivan and "Touch Me in the Morning" by Diana Ross to cheer you up. Sure was a sharp transition from songs recorded on the cusp of the 1970's like Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" and Bobby Sherman's "Easy, Come, Easy Go." From then on the early-70's were on a depressing kick- I remember when mom dropped a friend and I at the mall theater to watch the sci-fi feel good film "Silent Running" in 1972.
