Anyone with experience with a GK 212 Neo II cab? Someone local is selling one for dirt cheap. I see them used on Reverb etc. for $475 and have high ratings. Only 8 ohms but also can be bi-amped. Looks interesting.

I have a GK 212 Neo IV and it’s pretty awesome IMO… not sure about the II and what could be different.

The Gallien-Krueger (GK) Neo IV is a complete redesign of the Neo II, featuring custom-tooled neodymium drivers built in the USA. While the Neo II used imported off-the-shelf speakers, the Neo IV improves overall efficiency and punch with a narrower footprint designed to fit flush under GK's Legacy and Fusion amplifier lines.

Nice upgrades as far as I can tell, but also twice the price at close to $1,000 used (incl. tax and shipping). Might be worth the test at $150 for the II.

I wonder if (for laughs) anyone ever put a Fender decal on a Gibson or visa-versa. Let the geek meltdown begin!
Well kinda sorta. I had Irv make up a decal for my ThunderCaster bass that I specifically designed to tick off both the Tbird and Fender die hards. A backwards facing Tbird logo with a bold Fender “F” emblazoned on its chest, and on a Tort guard just to mess with folks in this club…

Installed on a Gibby Tbird Non Reverse bass fitted with all Fender spec components (neck, tuners, pickups, bridge, ashtray, neck plate, knobs, pots, strap pins and every screw and bolt)…

For cheap it's a good cab. GK isn't where I look for cabs though... My Schroeder 1210R puts it aside, as does my Bag End 410.

I like a J neck, this one is an inexpensive one I picked up from Ebay, plays really nice, right there with my Birds in terms of comfort, slimness. etc. Love blocks and binding!

When my '63 II was my only bass, I played a (new) mid-'70s Fender Tele & Jazz bass in a music store and being used to the T-bird neck I didn't like them at all. They were fatter and coated with thick poly - yuck. More to do then with CBS era Fender as I have many J & P necked basses now. Also, I worked on Chucky's '70s J and it felt great! I never felt the need to take sides - I play all of them now and many other necks as well. :bassist:

I had one for a short while.
Didn’t even compare to the Mesa 212 Powerhouse I had.
I found that GK series in the 212 to be tubby sounding.
Just didn’t like its voicing.

Huge difference from the series II.

I like how that turned out! And I'm not usually a fan of mash-ups:)

Rich has a GK something or other. I can’t keep track. I’ve always liked GK. That cab and your Walkabout would make a nice couple.

Tort on a T-bird is triggering, you say... ?
🤔

Makes me wonder what pearloid would cause?
Pearloid and other types are welcome in my world. This bass showed up with a tort guard. and less than 10 minutes later it had been replaced. I have never been a fan of tort, but it does work well on some finishes.

I feel like I make a post everytime I play a gig, but I just love this bass so much. The sound is just perfect for my band. I’ve always been a finger player, but there’s a few songs I have been using a pick on, and the tone is just killer with these pickups.

It was a wet show! We had a nice tent, but were playing on a sloped parking lot. The rain was running right across the stage. The rugs were so saturated, we were splashing with every step we took. Great crowd that helped us forget about the crappy parts of the job.

Congrats on not being shocked! I'd have been terrified.

And that black NR looks fantastic.

We were all quite nervous. We really pushed the venue to cancel, but they didn't seem to care and we had a signed contract. Next time we know to put contract language in that we need an elevated stage in the event of wet ground

We did have all the subs and mains on pallets, and made sure all electrical connection points were elevated. Still a little nerve wracking though.
