Thunderbird Club

In other news, spotted in the wild: a Beechcraft Bonanza, produced for over 8 decades, but not any more. Design-wise, it’s sort of the Thunderbird of small, private aircraft.

This guy’s neighborhood is built around a private airstrip. Maybe 2 miles from my house as the Bonanza soars.
My Dad had one. That one is turbo charged(3 blade prop).

After some research in their gauges.
They don’t make them in a light gauge set.
I was also interested in their Gold flats.
Oh well…….
I believe the 750x 50-105 sets are the "light" ones. Nylon is less dense than steel, so a tapewound string is much less tension than a regular string of comparable gauge number. I used to have a medium-scale set of D'Addario 50-105, which was nice and light but far too expensive to get another set for long scale!

But a lap steel can just lean in the corner. I’m waiting for Ecto to post his new dobro.
I used to have a cheap lap steel, but I lost it (couldn't find it) before I ever learned it to save my life. I could probably buy a better one once I have time to learn it.
And no, my girlfriend doesn't object to my gear purchase, unless she doesn't like the look of it (she didn't quite approve of my taste for Thunderbird until she'd seen my VP in person). She is a guitarist herself, and I've got her a few guitars that she really likes. I'd say that good communication and co-operation is key to a good relationship that keeps both people happy.

She needs a Firebird. ;) The Epi versions look fantastic.

Thanks for that info.
I do understand that the tension on those would be on the lighter side.
But a 105 on the E is to much for me.
One of many reasons I love the Cobalt flats so much.
40-95.
Not many manufactures make that gauge.

Nice P bass! I'm getting a P bass, too, although I feel at times that the soloed neck pickup of my Thunderbird gets close enough. Still it won't hurt to have one with flats and one with stainless rounds. :smug:
A Thunderbird tends not to be a light bass, and I feel my Epi VP is a bit heavier (and neck-heavier due to the thicker neck and larger "beak") than a 2019 Gibby. Still comfortable, though, and I especially like that the body wing joints of a Thunderbird automatically forms a big ramp or thumbrest.
I know a Precision is not for everyone.
But my modded ‘70 sounds awesome and is a dream to play.
Weighs roughly 8.5.IMG_1106.jpeg

No reason other than fun curiosity - now that there are a number of Gen1 T-birds in the 'fold' - what are your specs/serial #'s?

GEO - # 217533 - 1964 IV - 9lbs

I'm keeping busy working from home, had to dig the case out and check the receipt for my s/n. 194633, dates to '64, I don't know what month.

Very nice- what pickups do you have there?

Precisions- I dig them too-

My Fender American 50's Original was the model in the Möbius poster- the bass, not the blonde bombshell, the latter of which was a figment of our collective imagination.

At least they tend not to be heavy basses. Other than the Epi PRO 5. A beast.
