Thunderbird Club

Which Jackson is that? I've heard that they have jumbo frets. If yours has them, how does the action feel?

Regarding sounding great in a mix, but not so great solo, I have not experienced that with a bass, but it reminds of how many accounts I've heard engineers liking how the venerable P-Bass sounds in a mix. Interestingly though John McVie played an Alembic on Rumours songs and on "Rhiannon" from the Fleetwood Mac album he used a Precision on "I'm So Afraid" . Perhaps because it was harder-edged than the other songs.

I've never heard them h
Sounds like he's downtuned. Is that a little clam in when he goes to the second chord of the solo?
But he makes it sound like he meant to do that.

Yes that's the trouble with judging a bass tone out of context.
Check some Geezer iso bass:

I remember seeing a video of McCartney’s isolated Bass for Something. I was completely bamboozled! It sounded nothing like the way I had the song in my head. But every time I’ve heard the song since all I hear is Sir Paul!

I’ve read since that George rejected the bass line at first. Paul had to convince him to go with it.

The Red Rocker! I saw him open for Boston in '79. He played that thing, boy it was ear-splittingly loud!
That's when I saw him. Sammy, Eddy Money and Boston IIRC. No one knew who he was. I'll bore with the story again. He walked around the concourse after he played. I got a coke and drank what i wanted and dumped the rest in a garbage can and was pouring some bourbon in and I looked up and nodded as he walked by. He stepped over and said "You know that s---- will kill you."
I said, "Yeah, I know. But it's gooood!" He grinned and walked up the counter and flashed his pass and they gave him a coke. I had moved a way. He walked up to a garbage can and poured some out, pulled a bottle out of his back pocket and started pouring it in the cup. I walked up and said, "You know that s---- will kill you."
He looked up and started laughing and said, "Yeah, I know. But it's gooood!"
He didn't get my autograph and I didn't get his....

But he was fantastic live. Saw him again around '84. Before he joined VH.

That. Is a good story.

Did I post this? I meant to for the 4th, when I mentioned these colors were the closest I had.

I ain't gots lotsa TBirds, but all my basses wear EBCFs except the Ibanez(tapes).
I have only one Bird too, the 1990, and it's strung with EBCF:s, all because of this group👍😎
For the rest of my basses, my Greco P and Fender J both wear Fender flats, my Rick 4001 some, to me, unknown rounds. My Hofner violin has Rotosound flats.

Not sure, but he may have dropped D. But hard to tell. That vid was released as an album and FM used production tricks, like slowing and speeding up individual tracks to match harmonies. They did that when producing Rumors; that’s why sometimes you can sound a little off when trying to play along.

Fun fact, that was recorded at the UCSB stadium. Unfortunately, I was not there.

Nice P bass! I'm getting a P bass, too, although I feel at times that the soloed neck pickup of my Thunderbird gets close enough. Still it won't hurt to have one with flats and one with stainless rounds. :smug:
A Thunderbird tends not to be a light bass, and I feel my Epi VP is a bit heavier (and neck-heavier due to the thicker neck and larger "beak") than a 2019 Gibby. Still comfortable, though, and I especially like that the body wing joints of a Thunderbird automatically forms a big ramp or thumbrest.
