Indeed they are. I never used any of my newer L2ks in active. Passive just sounds better to me. But none sounded anywhere near as good as the '81.
Are you sure it was active? I don't recall seeing a very early 80s 1k that was active. I'm thinking the first active Ls were L2ks and 1ks later.
L-1K's were passive, as my schematic shows. The G&L L2K is the most user friendly 9v active bass I own/play. All setting offer something special as compared to other active/passive pre-amps that sound best one way or the other. It's why it gained the "Swiss army knife of basses" designation.

No not really a soccer fan at all.
The Aussies are out of the WC so just looking for a team. Of my heritage nations Ireland & Mauritius didn't make it, basically England and France are left. Norway I have so little connection to - a minuscule amount as it's so long ago.

I saw some of the French goals in a highlight clip and thought "they are good" and "Mbappe is fun to say". Thats about it so I thought I'd jump on to the bandwagon of the favourites for once as there are so few teams left.

I don't support England or France in anything.

The only heritage country I support as a second team is Ireland.🇮🇪
There is a Rugby Union tournament on here at the moment. Off season for the Nthn Hemisphere nations. France smacked the Wallabies (Australia) last night and have 3 Aussie guys in their squad. I don't watch (rarely watch) the Union games but I'm always hoping that Australia win, and if not them then the Irish.

I'm a Rugby League man. A "leaguie" (or as the Union "rah rah" chaps call us, a "Mungo").

Who are we mere mortals to argue with ai. ;)
They did have what is called the OMG switch which rolls off some highs. But makes it sound massive--more than just highs rolled off. I often use when I play with a pick or retain hefty low end when needing to play higher strings.
Screw ai.
Let your own ears decide what's right for you.
Sorry for the slight rant.
Ok, sorry, not sorry. 😁

All the talk about the World Cup soccer... July is always 24-7 Tour de France and this years edition is in full swing. No slagging soccer, but the Tour is the hardest sporting event in the world. It started on July 1st - a stage race where every day decides the final outcome at the end of the month. The classic "Wide World of Sport" byline was "the trill of victory and the agony of defeat" and that describes the Tour best. And in record heat -

Well, ya learn something new every day!

A bit of research tells me these basses are indeed passive but have a specific circuit which enables the adding of bass to the sound. So sayeth AI anyway.

No wonder I didn't find the treble harsh, like l usually did with active basses.
My G&L Tribute Legacy had their PBT (passive bass treble) system. I loved it.

Yeah, some finals I watch.
But it's all sensationalism now.
That I don't respect.

But how about those Knicks.

Just let me play my bass.

I got no lawn to chase anyone off of.
Live and let live as they say.

I played Union, so I am a Union guy. But Mungo is a new word.

I think Seattle beckons for a short Vacay, we need to talk again, soon.

It's a class thing. In Australia and I think England there is a divide between those that consider themselves a higher class (Union) and those working class ruffians (League). I'm of pretty much 100% peasant stock. 🤣

The World Cup games here in Seattle were huge, this town loves football (soccer) probably more than any other city in the US.

Years ago I used to go to Renaissance Festivals. They always had a "Peasant Shoot". The explanation from the actor playing 'The King' was "I thought the 'H' was silent".
