Not being an official club member, I probably shouldn't give out suggestions here but being 1963 pages in would be a significant milestone right? The number coincides with the same year as the Thunderbird's creation.
Keep in mind I'm a noob to the bass world as I ask... are you saying that Guitar Center owns Acoustic? No opinion about the GC Acoustic stuff. I haven't tried it or even been around it enough to have an idea. I have read that it is good for the price, and the price is pretty low for what it is. But I have no personal knowledge one way or another.
The George Grexa Acoustic USA stuff is a top notch update of the old Acoustic Control 360. I spent way too much money on a new 360m from him a few years ago and don't regret it a bit. It is everything an original 360 is, and it has a HF horn lurking in the cabinet, which means it has an expanded top end. I haven't messed with it and an octave pedal just yet to see what kind of subterranian noises it can make, but I would expect the answer is "plenty."
When Bain bailed out of GC, the new owners put the clamps on George's use of the name, and I'm not sure if he's making anything any more. He had some health issues as well, which is too bad, becuase he's a thoroughly amusing guy and was crazy enough to see the project through to reality. So, I have an opinion of those, but good luck finding one for sale.
Brown doesYeah, apparently I'm one of THOSE people. I don't think of myself as a synesthete because I don't actually see colors related to sounds. But, they sound like they should have colors. Colors don't have sounds, oddly enough.

So... it's 1963. You walk into a music store & see one of Gibson's fantastic new Thunderbird IV basses on the wall. What would you have seen on the price tag?

I think they were in the range of $225, give or take on the respective models.
Someone posted a price list a while ago, i think, can't remember who though.
I think this has been posted before.
But this is a 1965 price listView attachment 1198555

And @JJR58 says "Far out, man! I'm gonna save my bread and score one of those. It will be groovy in my Beach Boys tribute band". By 1965, he has saved the $260 required, but unfortunately, inflation has beaten him and he still can't afford the $289 price tag.
