Too bad the EB is probably the newer body style :(

But otherwise encouraging.

If it's an RD "Artist," then Moog circuitry would be cool.

As SRV was a self-styled "old school/retro" type of rockin' bluesman, it was most likely a throw-back use of the "...on the electric bass" term for his bass player. As an example, imagine introducing "Victor Wooten... on the Fodera bass" :)

That is what I am hoping for here. Delano is a German company so they might actually be easier to find, for our friends in Europe. They make a similar style in a J-configuration too. However, the cost of P-bass pups is typically not as cost prohibitive as a fancy set for J-bass style ($240), when you are experimenting.

I had previously only seen these Delanos offered from Best Bass Gear. But Pro Audio Land carries them too, as well as other brands (e.g., Lace Aluma-P). And you can occasionally find them on sale there.

I agree, I'm almost solely an Epiphone player, just my personal preference in sound and feel (plus feels nicer on my wallet), but straight away when I heard about Gibson not making basses, I felt that they didn't care about their bass customers anymore. They do have the EB now but it's not a popular choice when gibsons are concerned.

I'm not really a Fender guitar man (though Fender bass amps are my thing), but I think they seem to respect guitarist and bassists fairly evenly. Always bringing out new designs, fairly wide range. Though to be fair, 90% of bass have a p-bass, so no wonder.

I'm not fussed either way, since I prefer Epi's, but I think the move to discontinue basses was a slap in the face. There are always fans of the company who will get the basses, this thread pretty much proves that. The members of this thread as a collective probably have most of the T-Birds models ever made (not literally every single one, I mean individual models). I love the Gibson designs, the T-Bird (obviously), the Ripper/Grabber, the EB-3 to name a few, so would probably buy one if they made them again. Just don't like the way they do business. I would understand swapping a few models with others for popularity reasons (I.e. EB not selling well, lets make T-Birds next year), but scrapping the basses entirely is not on.

Actually Gibson's exit making basses coinciding with Epi producing the Vintage Pro T-bird everyone is waiting to receive makes perfect sense. I wondered why Gibson didn't finally make an accurate RI - and now it's clear why. Gibson step off the bass stage and Epi enters with their coolest (and still affordable) T-bird yet. Kinda brilliant really.

Yes I do Ken, the source, Chris Dekker is an long time acquaintance - he had the info on the new Epis well ahead of everyone else. So I do think that these basses will come out. Gibson is just remarkably disorganized!
