That's pretty much what I figgerd... I just always thought it was coolAs SRV was a self-styled "old school/retro" type of rockin' bluesman, it was most likely a throw-back use of the "...on the electric bass" term for his bass player. As an example, imagine introducing "Victor Wooten... on the Fodera bass"

There are factors involved. Their last model year didn't sell well, they're running 600 instruments a day out of a factory built to run 400, and they sell all the Les Pauls they make. If they're not making TBirds, they can take that time to make more LP's.

I have a live Vanilla Fudge LP "Near the Beginning" ('69) and during "Break Song" Tim Bogert plays a rippin' fuzz-bass solo and afterwards is introduced; "Tim Bogert, on the Fender bass" to which he relies "thank you!" 
TB was one of my earliest inspirations of full-on rock bass playing.Sounds tasty! I'mma hafta look that up!Me too!

If you are unaware of Tim Bogert - that LP is a good place to start. "Rock & Roll" (also from '69) is another to check out. He also sang lead on many of their songs.

Based on this one album... I'd say they occasionally go a little farther off into Prog-land than I typically venture, but it's pretty badass! I loved it when they'd lock into a groove. Tim Bogert was clearly a master of getting behind the beat & shovin' it up yer tuckus with a red hot boot!

Fuzz bass was not common then - Tim Bogert was a showman!

They do that because of the extra profit they will make when selling your old one.
I haven't felt most of the ones we had in the last 4 years. My home is on hydroshock absorbers, which have a motion of their own, so I couldn't tell the difference anyway. But I'm possibly the first screwed if a tsunami hits. Unless I get a tow outside the breakwaters or have turnkey working engines by then, then all I have to do is drive out and just worry about my land vehicles in the parking lot. I think we are pretty well protected and not in the direction most tsunamis would travel so we wouldn't get a direct hit, just the water flowing in and out, some of the guys with deep keels might bottom out on the ebbs, but I only draft 28"

Now there's a term I would never associate with the Vanilla Fudge! They were white-soul rockers from Long Island NY, contemporaries with The (Young) Rascals - but unlike the Rascals most of their songs were covers. They are mostly considered psychedelic rock, but not as trippy as the West Coast variety.
Ya know... I think that's why I never really got into them before. I knew they were commonly considered "Psychedelic Rock", and that was something I'd just never really got into. The album I just listened to, seemed more structured and musically complex than what I typically think of when I think of Psychedelic Rock. "Progedelic" perhaps?

With OHSC and free shipping, you really can't go wrong. Shoot them an offer or ask them what the bottom line is?
While I appreciate the appeal to Occam, I will add more. It is quite probable that customer service reps just don't have any information and just work form the assumption that the near future will look just like the present. If you put yourself in the CSR chair, you see that to get you a good answer, requires a lot of work for unlikely success. The alternative is to answer quickly and move onto the next query. The latter makes your work stats look better.
From the management side, there is no reason to tell CSRs about next years plans and reasons to not disclose those plans.
Yup, that's how business works. And in a shrinking industry, with small profits and tight margins, you have to do that to survive.
Unfortunately thunderbirds are basically a niche product.
