Thunderbird Club

.
I don't have any concert t-shirts. Never did. Aside from never having any money when I was going to concerts where bands sold t-shirts, the idea of wearing a band t-shirt never made any sense to me. I'm also the crank who doesn't like wearing a logo unless somebody pays me to wear the logo.

I have a Manic Street Preachers tshirt and a Radio Birdman tshirt. I may look at one of those Bird tshirts. It will look great with pewter coloured Korat fur all over it.

I'll take your whole post to the guitar shop if/when I'm ready to pull the trigger on the modifications. Thanks for the good explanation and detail. So are you saying two switches and each switch turns its own pickup on or off? I hadn't considered that but I will. Now that I think about it, on other bass guitars, I've always just turned the pickup volumes all the way up and tinkered with the EQ on the amplifier to get what I want. So in that regard the Blackbird configuration was actually perfect for me. I diddle the tone knob to get more/less pick/fret sound too, but that's it.

The standard wiring is V-V-T with no switches. The value of the pots and the tone cap has varied a bit over the years. Someone will be able to give you the correct values.

There are rumours that Gibsons are 'muddy' sounding, therefore the sound of the soloed 'neck' pickup may come as a surprise/confound expectations.

The bird shirts look kind of cool and would be great for identifying those in the know. I guess a tribal identifier in a sense.

As far as concert Ts go, I did that in high school (certainly a tribal identifier) because you had to wear the shirt to school the next day, then later did not because who needs to spend that much on a shirt. And now buying them again. At the Alice/Purple show I got "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Alice". I think I must be getting political in my music shirts as I also have a Geddy for President shirt. I like them because they aren't outcome dependant and express my general disdain for politicians.

There are other rumors, too. Elvis having an affair from beyond the grave with space aliens is one of those. They are all true.

I used the Hipshot LIC Ultralite HB6Y 3/8 Chrome Plated tuners on my Epi, to match the existing tuners. Easiest thing is to remove a string, then remove the tuner and measure the tuner and the hole.
Or do the patented CroMagnon technique. Get some tuners, find out they don't fit, fire up the drill and make 'em fit. That works, too.

(Fact is that I think the tuners that were on the '91 were even smaller than the small shaft Hipshot tuners, so it didn't really matter. And, I'm only that much of a knuckle dragger when I'm working on the brakes or some other non-esssential, not all the time.)

The majority of my shirts are band shirts. With the majority of those being concert shirts. But it didn't help that I went to a Catholic high school (not uncommon around here, and you don't even have to pay or be Catholic to get in) and I had to wear a uniform everyday except the last Friday of the month, so I didn't have to buy clothes too often. But it was pretty cool when one of the Vice Principals saw my Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie Gruesome Twosome concert shirt and made mention he saw White Zombie back in the day. And one of my teachers was a big Crue fan (my religion teacher to boot).

I have seen that video before. It's amazing. He makes it all look so effortless, and his technique is uniquely "bad" looking. If there's such a thing as an influence on my playing at all, it would be Ox.

I hear ya Larry, every time I hit a Jimmy Buffett show I drop $45 a shirt x 2, same at the last Black Sabbath tour The End at MSG...$45 a shirt x 2 , me and the wife...ridiculous, I remember back in the days you would get 2 for $10 in the lot after the show and be able to get them down to 2 for $8...I miss the 80's...late 70's weren't bad either, but the 80's...yeah thats the stuff ;-)
I still have my very first concert shirt from the KISS Dynasty tour @ MSG I think it was '79...

Consider this; Record sales are going down and are no longer the main income for artists - So money have to be made elsewhere like on shows and merchandise...

You wouldn't like it. It's not an Epiphone;)

Nonsense... I love Gibson too, and do have a couple - Only problem they don´t come up for sale often in my neck of the woods... Also they don't offer as many color variations as Epiphone, and a fashionable man has to accessorize with matching colors... ;)
