I had forgotten about the "limited run" angle...The would never show limited run basses anyway, if you want one just speak with a real Gibson dealer like Wildwood Guitars in Colorado.
I have to do whole albums. I can't not listen to whole albums. I watch concert videos & listen to albums, instead of watching TV (for the most part). I have to wait for a break between songs if I need to pause it for any reason. To me, it just feels like I'm being rude... like I'm walking out in the middle of a conversation or something. That's why I only listen to music in the car, when I'm going on a long trip. I hate the abrupt descent when yer groovin' on a tune & the ignition shuts off! It's like a bird flying into a picture window! I don't like speaking over the top of music that's playing, anymore than I like someone talking during a movie. If I'm truly OCD about anything... it's listening to music. I have specific "rules" that I've involuntarily applied to it, and it really rubs my fur the wrong way when those rules get broken. Sorta like a weird anxious feeling comes over me. I generally can't have it on in the background... cuz then my brain just works harder to try & hear the music, so it winds up being more of a distraction than if it was turned up... but still, my mind drifts to the music, instead of whatever else I'm supposed to be focussing on, so I have to shut it off. To me...music is the event. Why would you put it on, if yer not gonna pay attention to it? People who spend their lives with their iPods on shuffle... well... anybody ever watch "Dexter"?Some bands I can listen to a specific song but for the most part me too. Especially bands like King Diamond that make story heavy concept albums, I can't stand listening to one random song.
Surely "For those About to Rock..." must have found its way into your good graces...Good company. Supposedly Keef agrees with you. I love all from High Voltage (Aust editions) through to Back in Black. After that, not so much.
I do like Let there be Rock a lot also, though recently I've been drawn to Dirty Deeds.
The song yes, absolutely.Surely "For those About to Rock..." must have found its way into your good graces...
Most of my t-shirts are band shirts.
You guys should go to more underground shows. They're a lot cheaper and so is the merch (t-shirts usually $10-15).
I've never spent $100 on a concert ticket that wasn't a multi-day festival.
One of my biggest pet peeves, is those people that change the song halfway through, and they usually do it ALL THE TIME. I just don't get it, they must not like music as much as they say.I have to do whole albums. I can't not listen to whole albums. I'd be up for a mini road trip to see them!It is not either/or. I want to see the big name touring acts (Alice Cooper was on the bucket list for a number of reasons) but I also go to local shows. Time is the constrained parameter.
When are the Nasty Habits going on tour? I would go see that.
Very similar thing here. I don't like to have music on at work, and don't like to have my attention imposed on when I'm listening.I have to do whole albums. I can't not listen to whole albums. Volume knobs for each pickup, like how it is on a jazz bass. And instead of a tone knob I suggested a series/parallel switch that changes how the pickups are wired when both are on. Parallel is the standard, and scoops the tone and drops volume a tad in some cases. Series is like a P bass pickup or guitar Humbucker, boosts the mids and volume.I'll take your whole post to the guitar shop if/when I'm ready to pull the trigger on the modifications. Thanks for the good explanation and detail. So are you saying two switches and each switch turns its own pickup on or off? I hadn't considered that but I will. Now that I think about it, on other bass guitars, I've always just turned the pickup volumes all the way up and tinkered with the EQ on the amplifier to get what I want. So in that regard the Blackbird configuration was actually perfect for me. I diddle the tone knob to get more/less pick/fret sound too, but that's it.
Ha ha, I think not. It's been well taken care of for those fourteen years... in the case. The bass and the case were damn near mint before I started really playing it last year.
I am not a number, I am a free man!
Thank you, I do feel welcome. Bass players are the best people, I find.
And also... I found the Nasty Habits website a couple years ago (Hungry Like the Wolf search got me to your video on YouTube) and I was extremely pleased when I saw you here.
I'm torn on even talking to the guy. But I will probably hear him out, and more importantly see what his reaction would be to some of the changes I would require if I was to work with him again. I am not thinking the outcome will be mutual, but you never know.Hey Ub...
I might as well warn you straight outa the gate... I'm gonna give you a little more than the customary "2 cents worth".
You lost this gig because you tried to prevent a premeditated deceitful event from occurring. Rather than to take the opportunity that you gave him to rectify the situation & handle it honorably... he was infuriated that you thwarted his evil plan (sorry for comic book phrase, but it's true). He's a narcissistic, miscreant control freak. He's [expletive deleted] you over, and you know that he's [expletive deleted] other people over. He is intimately familiar with the sound of a dagger penetrating the southward side of a northbound companion. Why in the [expletive deleted], would you accept a dinner invitation from a person who's already poisoned you once? [expletive deleted] that mother[expletive deleted]!!! You are talented, experienced, and well connected. In my opinion... you should be diligent and patient as build your own band... then go out and grind his bones to dust on the battlefield. Give him as many reasons as possible to regret what he did to you!
(... but hey... that's just me)
I've never spent more than approx $40 on concert tickets even for festivals. But have paid $100-250 to see one band play 2 sets, several times, usually 2-3 stops per tour since 1996, and that band was rush. A few times I paid $40ish to watch from the lawn, but usually $100+. The time I paid $250 my 4th row ticket turned out to be 1.5rows back. The 4th row was the first of permanently installed seats in an arch, and I was to the end of one arch, right in front of geddy. Rows 1 2 and 3 were folding chairs in the middle of the arch. So right in front of me was half of the last 1st row seat. SCORE! That was the night I could see that he had the CIJ geddy neck on his #1, which at the time I assumed was a relic job, not realizing his truss rod gave out and he needed a neck in a hurry and happened to like the feel of the Japanese neck for that tour. Yeah I had some compact binoculars, which from that close had the same effect on geddy as my 9x63 had from 10 rows back on the r30 tour in Saratoga springs NY. Yes I have shared moments with geddy giving me a funny look right into the binoculars. So I'm sure I am "creepy binocular guy", and the artwork for the power windows album would come to mind.I've never spent $100 on a concert ticket that wasn't a multi-day festival.
Looks like some mineral oil would rejuvenate that fretboard. Looks like a slightly lighter, and a bit dried out slab of rosewood. Oil it and it will darken up and look much healthierHi Guys,
Are there any fretboard's wood change that must be kept in mind when purchasing a Thundebird?
I'm looking forward for a 2012 one, display model, with two little dents on the back..but what really bothers me, is that the fretboard is waaaaayyy to light shaded.
Don't know if its just an ugly rosewood board; a medium/dark but very dry rosewood board, or another specie of wood (example: baked maple, obeche)
Take a look:

The only other fretboard wood I've found on Gibson TBirds post 2001 (with no conclusive answer found from Gibson though) is ebony, which was only on the white Gibson TbirdsHi Guys,

Cites thoughNewer minty TBirds can be had all day long on eBay for about $900-$1000 w/OHSC. I'm not sure how shipping to Italia would work out but it might be worth looking at.
Cites though
I believe so.That applies to older instruments as well?
