Thunderbird Club

I liked everything about the Goth, better than what I have now... with the exception of the neck profile. Comparing the sound that came outa the Goth to that of the TB IV... I wouldn't necessarily say it had more or less bottom end per se. The tone just seemed "darker" overall, with more snarl & attitude. The TB IV is more... polite, I suppose. Though the Goth had a more aggressive, sorta "pseudo-overdriven" tone... I believe the output is a just a little bit hotter on the TB IV.

Do you happen to have a wiring diagram that would illustrate how one would perform the V/B/T mod?
I'm definitely getting the snarl and overdriven tone and it doesn't seem to matter if the pup is all the way up near the strings or completely buried in the body. Sounds like the nature of the pups then, they must be fairly overwound high resistance puppies. Can't wait to see what they do with Tapewound strings.

Unfortunately I don't have a diagram for V/B/T but I'm sure there's one over in the luthier or pickups and electronics section of TB. They could probably also tell you what pot and cap values you need.

VVT w/ push/pull:

Gotta mix the two, but it's a start. 500k pots would probably be better for TBird pickups but it's up to you. And I would just run a VVT with push/pull for series/parallel, which I'm thinking about doing with the 2013

Thanks Kat!
Unfortunately looks like black isn't an option, if so I'll have to look elsewhere.

If anybody out there has a lead on a set of 2015 TBird pups (or 2013/14 EB or 2017 EB pups which are the same thing as the Bird pups) I'd be very interested.

As discussed the other day, the nickels might take a black coating.

Thanks! I've never ventured over there before. I'll hafta check it out:thumbsup:

What are good clover tuners for a 2013 gibson thunderbird?

Hipshot
They make one specifically for modern Thunderbirds, I haven't looked lately but it may not be on their website so deal with them directly if you don't see it.

HEY! Thanks Doc!
Again... I'm an idiot when it comes to the electronics, but I'm not particularly interested in the ability to switch between series & parallel. I've heard a few folks sing the praises of T-bird pups in series, so I'm pondering the idea of just wiring 'em up that way & doing the V/B/T thang. Is that even possible?

It isn't there on the website. They make clovers that are just a tad smaller than the usual. Those don't bang into each other, ever. The slightly bigger ones could. I had to call them and make sure I had the right notation on an internet order to get the right ones. They will fit a 2013 perfectly. The '91 I put them on had a different configuration for the set screws, which meant drilling holes.

Drilling holes in a perfectly good Gibson bass guitar was terrifying at first, then oddly satisfying.

Cannot compute, can not compute.
In all honesty I don't know, I'm not overly knowledgable in electronics either... shoulda paid more attention in those classes
Why do you want VBT over VVT?

Thanks Kat!

And, if anybody ever sees such a thing as a chrome cover for those pickups, I'll take four of 'em! oooooh - Shiny!

Well... I never use the bridge pup solo and I very seldom use the neck pup solo, so... I'm a blender (yes... you get me for free when you open a new account at First Federal;)). With a V/B/T config., my volume can stay pegged while I dial in the blend I like with one knob. It's hard to shift on the fly when ya gotta (for instance) roll off the neck & roll on the bridge. With V/B/T... two steps, becomes one. If yer a set it & ferget it kinda player, that don't make no nevermind... but to a twiddler like me, it don't git no bedder'n'at!:smug:

Perhaps is should be theMixer, not theFixer...

I'm really not sure about S/P with a blend pot.
