Read somewhere, Townshend saying Moon was about to be sacked from the Who, but died. Townshend said they were sick of teaching him how to play like Keith Moon again everytime they went into the studio/on tour.

Moon never played a hi hat, cutlery was optional, and all his toms were tuned to the same pitch. No wonder he sucked.
'Miming' works and good point. I did know about the no hihat thing.
Yes... it's my understanding that, considering Keith Moon as your friend and colleague, came at a price.
I read a rather lurid biography by his former roadie, personal assistant, something ... and it sounded like it was a marvel he could play at all, so prodigious was his intake of intoxicants.

Yes... he was a party legend that party legends looked up to, which is all fun times & great stories on the surface... but I imagine it musta been hell on those who had to get him from A to B on a daily basis.

Have flatwounds on an Epiphone Viola Bass that works really well. But wouldn't imagine myself using them on a Bird.
Flats? Don’t get on with the different tension and I really do use the tactile feedback from rounds to help judge whereabouts on the neck I am.

Probably rental equipment for the tv appearance, and Keith goofing around behind the drums for the playback.
I know Keith was wild and had his own eclectic drumming style, but seriously doubt that he played like on the video in real life resting his drumsticks on the drums rather than hitting them.
I, and probably most if not everyone here, feels there is no reason to apologize for that. It was all in good fun.

Surgery number 2 tomorrow. Stitches come out of my left (fretting) hand and release the tendon in the right (plucking) hand.
I'm looking forward to:
Getting the stitches out. Having to keep them covered and the discomfort of pulling etc.
Having the right hand done. It is the worse of the two.
I am not looking forward to the sensations of the surgery.
My teacher has been trying to help me develop a lighter touch and the surgery required me to have a light touch fretting, so in that way it has helped my playing. Now to develop the light touch with the plucking hand... I suppose there are better ways to develop a light touch, but this worked.
