Another good reason to darken the Goth board. I intend to keep the side dots but the dye will hopefully at least tone down that in-your-face XII at the 12th.
Now that I think about it, I might just try to dye over the fretboard and only part of the Roman numeral fret mark. Whatcha think about an "XI" at the 12th fret? It would have every bass and guitar player in the audience counting my frets all night to see if it's really the 11th or 12th fret that's marked, also doubles as an odd inside joke Spinal Tap reference that those in the know will get. Might be fun.

So I have three sets of strings left to try. Smith Bass Burners, DR Lo-Riders, and D’Addario Pro Steels. So far the Rotosounds are the only ones to really slice through the mix in the band setting.

I agree the fretboard is incongruously pale.

I like to look of the frets on the board compared to none in my opinion, but when do I ever look at them, probably never, especially because the dots are on the side of the neck facing you as well. The only thing I've found them useful for, is if I'm teaching someone how to play something by me playing it on my guitar, and them copying. That's pretty much it. For me, it's more aesthetically pleasing, I couldn't see myself getting rid of it, I would think something was missing.

I'm forgetting already, but off the top of my head the DM Blue Steel (almost as good as the Rotosounds for me - I gave the extra set I had to the luthier to put on the RNR), DR Hi-Beams, Fodera SS. I'm curious about the Cobalt Flats, which I'll probably check out down the road, but after these three sets, I'll just stick with something. I like the experimenting, but not having to readjust stuff every time because of varying tensions and sometimes gauges.

In other news, we finally have a shared monthly space. A guy who's starting to rent a pretty big space who will be there during the day needed bands to fill out the nights. We got our night for a good price, and it seems like a great group of older, mature people taking all the slots. The guy said he's going to leave a 410 cab there and a GK head that anyone can use, but I may still bring my GK MB500 to use with the cab so I know my settings are the same week-to-week.

Yeah, there's a big difference in sound between apartment and band mix, and of course the type of music you're playing.

While we're talking strings, recall I pulled the DR Black Beauties off my Goth. They just didn't work well for that pickup/control setup. Sucked the low and top end out and made it a total mid Monster. So I switched over to La Bella Black tapes and so far so good. Excellent tone top to bottom and a dream to play. However, this is just a preliminary report since I'll be replacing the pups and controls next week in favor of some much broader range but relatively dark sounding Bart's.
