Speaking of short scale... has anyone ever tried stringing a standard scale guitar(24 3/4" to 25 1/2") with bass strings? If so, what's the lowest note you were able to tune to with a Low E bass string or a Low B bass string if you've tried it? I'm curious about this and might even try it just for ***** and giggles.

In the basement. I posted some pics on Instagram when I was done and the blog section of BuildDirect asked me if they could have a writer do a piece on it!

Not sure if anyone cares but I did swap the low E string on my son's cheap 6 string with the fattest string I could get through the tuning peg which happened to be an old round wound A I had lying around. No issues at all making that A string ring like a bass's E string. TBH, I was shocked at how close they sounded through my amp. I can see using (2) A's & (2) G's to string up a short scale bass EADG. Now I just need to find a donor guitar.

Is that reclaimed wood, or did you relic it yourself?

And the neck is the best I've ever played.

Anyway, it's the best bass I've ever owned. And I've owned some decent high-end gear.

You played that deal just right and got a sweet bass for a good price. Makes me feel good all over, as I can imagine how you felt when you scored that find:thumbsup:

Three posts back, there's a link to it! TLDR my dad is a woodsmith and he harvested them from an old farm fence from a town in rural BC and he and I planed them and then I drove the load back to Vancouver and glued and screwed them to the wall.

Watch that string tension, though. There will be more strain on the neck. Keep an eye on it.

It's just laminate. It was $0.96/sq. ft. and the colour is French White Wash. 11mm thick. It's the exact same flooring as my guitar player's tattoo shop floor. I guess I'd stared at for so long, when my wife and I were in the flooring place, I was like "dang, this is the stuff! Right here! I don't know why, but I LOVE this floor."

While playing the Greco bird the drummer said he saw a 'flash' from inside my BX500 bass head just b4 the bottom dropped out. I just figured out the amp has blown AC bridge diodes and I will be doing some soldering real soon (I'm a guessin the fuse was stubbern.)
I know its because I actually attempted to play 'Mustang Sally' on a thunderbird. On page 46 of the secret t-bird handbook it says that this is specifically forbidden. I have been using a 1500 watt power amp driven by a tone hammer pedal. Really lights up 8 10's.
