Speaking of Ibanez with chrome Gotohs... I just sold the first bass I bought, an SR 300 DX. I liked this bass but never played it. I'm using the cash from its sale to do the mods. View attachment 546278View attachment 546279

I've had a couple of cheap Ibanez, and I think they are the best cheap basses out there. You get a lot for your money. The GSR-206 I posted was only $300 new but plays great and sounds really good. Better than some much more expensive basses. And believe it or not the neck is bird's eye maple (I assume that was not on purpose, just a lucky accident).

Welcome to the little boards club! My current board is a Korg Pitchblack Tuner, an MXR M108 10 band EQ, a Fulltone Fatboost FB-3 and a JHS Minibomb Boost - basically 3 "more louderer" pedals of varying degress of colouration.

As for a chorus, I ran a 90's Boss CE-5 Stereo Chorus forever. It's surprisingly thick sounding with a bass as it was designed as a guitar pedal.

I'm currently running a pitchblack into a sfx red dragon booster/od then into a zoom b3. Pretty much covers everything I need especially now that I can use the b3 as an amp sim and incorporate my iPad into my rig as a synth as well as using it as a pre.

On the right is my newest Bird. I picked up a nice and clean Hamer FBIV to go along with my black one. There are several differences between the two models such as different necks/headstocks, pickup layout, and jack location. Very well made and a full pound lighter than the black model. Loving this thing and am beyond thrilled to have landed two of these rare Birds!!

Not used to seeing just two knobs on a dual pickup bass, what's the control layout on the black one? The strat jack also gives it a neat look.

They are volume controls for each pickup. No tone control on this bass. The burst has the typical V-V-T layout.

Hmmm, not sure how well I'd get on with that layout. I guess beyond the amp rig setting - string choice and right and placement would be very important on this bass. Still she's a looker!

It's just like having a tone control wide open, which is how I set the tone control on any bass that has one. Some of mine have a kill switch in place of a tone control.

Those Hamer birds are cool! I really like the sunburst one.

I hate to do it but I've posted my Mike Lull T4 up for sale in the classifieds. Such a great bass, but I bought a few other things and need to move some stuff to keep the lights on!!! ; )

Although this will make me "t-birdless", I'm going to stick around this forum. It is a lot of fun!

And that speaks directly to what I was saying. "I like that so much more than chrome" is what you said which means you don't believe you are looking at chrome... well neither do I and it's my opinion that Hipshot has no business selling those tuners as chrome.

I agree with you. If it isn't mirror finished it isn't chrome. The pictures look like its brushed aluminum not chrome.

So I stopped to pick up a new cable and some straplocks and inadvertently found a gibson tbird that I don't know if I can live without.

I had a chance to mess with a couple '14 Gibsons recently and this is also a '14 but holy crap! It's got something special about it.
Found my tone in about 2 seconds, feels light as a feather, and it practically played itself.

Seriously thinking about bringing in some gear to trade.
you guys think its worth it to sell off a couple gibson guitars and maybe my ibanez or epi classic to make a no cash deal?

seriously makes my epi look like a big fat turd, and I love my epi

If you love it so much that you can live without the other gear, then do it!! Once in a while you run across "The One" and you have to make sacrifices to get that piece. You just have to weigh out the pros and cons for your situation and decide your next move. Good luck!!

About 11 years ago I was faced with a similar problem. BassNW had a '76 (It was beat to hell) for 999.00, I had a little cash and several basses including an Epi 'Bird to trade. Evan Sheely said "it's the real deal" and that pretty much clinched it for me. That beater became my 7Up Green one later.

I figure I can reasonably expect $500 per guitar and $150 to $200 on trade for the ibanez or classic pro. So for a $1400 bass it would probably cost me 2 guitars and 2 basses. Out of them all the epi is the only one that gets significant playtime, so I guess it wouldn't hurt that bad.
Or I could sell the guitars and ibanez and go out of pocket. Then I still have the epi for my knock around bass.

If its at a store see if you can put a deposit on it and put it in layaway. That gives you the time to sell your other gear at going used street prices vs the typical 50% of used street value you'll get on trade in.

Great deal. I wish I could find a beater 76 in Aus. Been looking at a few Greco birds lately.
