They are totally not close. On the P I just built, I have nickel screw heads on a chrome string retainer and they look old and grungy on the chrome despite being brand new. I hear your pain, homie.

I have few photos of my new Thunderbird ! It's the 120th anniversary and I don't know the pickup height for this bass...
I upgraded the bridge with the Supertone made by Hipshot with low action with no buzz (3/32inch on the E string).

Hi and welcome! Nice TBird! I would say that there is no specific height for the pickups. If you like your current setup for string height and want to raise or lower your pups, just do it.

My current pickup height on my Tbird is 7/64 on the bridge and 9/64 on the neck ( I don't depress the high frets).
The sound is good for me but I don't know if there are basic values for this bass...

...and that's the only thing that matters, how they sound. You obviously don't want them too close or they'll get boomy, too far and they get thin. Set them for what sounds right to you.
I hate it when a well thought out plan is thwarted by poor merchandising.

Nickel has tha yellowish tone to it which makes it look very vintage and old even if it's brand new. Chrome on the other hand has the blueish tone and it suits, at least in my eyes and personal preference, the look for anything really. Just like 40's-50's-60's cars, chrome was just awesome!!
I think their matte finished tuners look great. I have them, in both chrome and black, on several basses. Very classy. It really doesn't look bad to have them with a shiny bridge, but to each his own.
Maybe I'm missing it but I think matte finish on metal looks underwhelming. How about a closeup of your headstock to see how it looks on a Tbird?

Those won't be any heavier than what comes stock on Tbirds, so weight wouldn't be an issue to me.
I get that but I was hoping to cut some weight from the headstock. Oh well... I'm still excited about doing this mod!

I think your tuners look great, Showdown. What I was referring to was what Hipshot calls chrome. They look matte gray. (See the pics above)
If you want shiny chromish from Hipshot, you need to order nickel. That to me is a compromise since you'd have to mix a chrome bridge with grayish tuners or nickel tuners. They don't sell a nickel bridge, just a chrome. IMO, if Hipshot is going to force you into nickel for shiny Ultralite tuners then they should sell a nickel Supertone or if they're going to sell a chrome Supertone then they should sell matching Ultralite tuners.
That's cool that you dig them but if I hadn't done my research and had ordered chrome Ultralites from Hipshot and got gray in the mail, I'd be sending them back.

Ok, we both have our opinion, no problem. I think they look much better than the cheap chrome Gotoh knockoffs that came on the Ibanez.
Speaking of Ibanez with chrome Gotohs... I just sold the first bass I bought, an SR 300 DX. I liked this bass but never played it. I'm using the cash from its sale to do the mods.
