Now do "I Don't Believe in Love" from Operation: Mindcrime! You know, if you're taking QR requests from strangers on the internet, that is. That song's a great showcase of bass tone.

I read in a bass-related magazine long (long) ago that Eddie Jackson gets that tone from a blown speaker enclosed in a road case with a microphone. A sample of what comes out gets mixed back in with the raw signal and voila: grindy bass tone.

Don't know if it's true, I read it in a magazine which I only believe a little more than what I read on the internet. :D

Queensryche is, without a doubt, one of my all time favorite bands. They were so good. And, I should clarify, I am trying to get a band started. The singer I recruited requested this song for our first get together next week ... I am really hoping it works out. Any singer who throws out Geoff Tate and Geddy Lee (we are also doing spirit of radio) as his "first jam" tunes is either gonna be amazing or a huge bust. :)

I'm right there with ya! I still enjoy Mindcrime as much today, as I did 20-odd years ago!

I swear when I first hit that D chord at about :20 it sounded like a choir of angels. A choir of angels banging on grand pianos with sledgehammers, that is. Or maybe a gang of Steinways and a gang of Bosendorfers run into each other for a late night rumble behind Kenndy Center! hehe. :D Needless to say, very happy and satisfied. Blowing off work again this afternoon. :D

Also a fave of mine, they’re playing near Detroit in November so I might go check them out. They have a new singer and I believe one new guitarist, so no Tate, but I’ve seen a couple live vids and the singer sounds good.
