The black Bird is the Bach. It has a large headstock and thin body with a glued in neck like the originals did so it can dive a bit. You can't see the strap button on the back but it's in the same spot of the Pelham blue pictured below (not my bass sadly). You should be fine to move the strap button to the back. Pretty sure some others here have done this on the new NR's as well. Hope this helps.

I'm thinking about moving the strap button from the upper horn to the body (just under where the neck is joined), but I'm worried it might not make difference. I've been reading up on it, but haven't come across anything conclusive.

Looks like Mike Watt moved his?


Has anyone had this issue before? Is there a better spot for that strap button?

It's been 6 month now since I bought my last Thunderbird, and I can't help looking for more, although I shouldn't...

My wife think I'm a horder and wants me to seek professional help...

The head is heavier, sure. maybe a little bit, but mine never crashes to the floor as I'm usually holding on to it.

1. Holding up the neck with your fretting hand impedes playing.

2. Unbalanced basses cause me back pain.

MZ - you're gonna love this club (or maybe a better term is support group)!

Our Queen Mark runs one of the most welcoming, fun, informative, non judgmental and great places to be on TB. When I bought my Spector Rex5 a couple years ago I was welcomed into the Thunderbird clan with open arms. Even though my bass wasn't a Thunderbird or a Gibson or Epiphone there wasn't any poo pooing or trash talk, I never felt for even a second that I wasn't welcome or equal. The folks in this club are the real deal and a fine crowd to run with.

I love my Spector and have since added a Gibson Tbird and am now conjuring up ways to convince my wife I really need a custom built Cataldo. The Tbird design comes in many flavors, each one unique and yet so familiar. You'll see and hear about all of them in this club, it will open up a whole new bass world for you to explore. Welcome to the club!

it won't hurt the joint. My SG has a set neck and the strap button is on the heel from the factory.

I would add that before you get all drill crazy, go try out a wide suede backed strap. I use a Franklin strap I picked up from GC, it sticks like glue. Never had a problem with any of my birds either.

Welcome to the club, definitely one of the most fun and welcoming on TB!

Let her know that all of thses basses can be sold for as much or more than you paid, horders keep things that are usually worthless. Its a good investment
