My ‘technique’ is pretty heavy handed and I use heavy strings, so I usually lower pickups rather than raise them

Got sent home sick. So I took a couple of pics. No filter on these. A thin cloud passed by the sun coming through the window as I took them. Kinda looks like a water color.
Now that I have been gigging and plying this bass for almost a year now it has developed some "organic relic-ing"...

Decided to go with these knobs I found in my pile. Had to go. Find set screws and paint the white dots red. Got the switch cover, all done until I maybe get different knobs. I'm digging those hipshot O rings knobs.
Man... what an incredibly cool thing to do for your brother!
Thanks for the perspective. I guess I struggle with the word "deserve". I'm much more comfortable in the role of giver than receiver

I bought one exactly like this one (with the cover sheet) in the 90's for $50 new (!) from Guitar Center in SF. I couldn't believe it was so cheap but I didn't argue and handed them my money. It's a very well made, protective HSC. I call the colour "funeral fuchsia".
The pawnshop I got my EB-3 from has a bolt on Epi with one of those cases. Won’t sell the case by itself, and wants $250 for a less than good condition bolt on bird. Can’t imagine the inside of the case to be in much better condition.

There's other names for that color that are probably more apt around here, but that would upset the net-nanny a bit. The 2013 EB has a black case with a white fur lining. Other than that, the 1991 is brown with a pink liner and a furry pink sheet. The 2001 is brown with a pink lining and satin sheet. The 2015 just has a pink liner, no sheet. Beats me what the sheet is all about, but I kinda like it for it's weirdness.

You should be able to find a bolt-on Epi for around $200 or $250 in good shape with a case on Craigslist.
I’m more interested in the Gibson case it comes with. If the bass was half decent I would have bought it a while ago and sold the bass.
Edit: exchange rate puts a $250 bass on Craigslist at $327 CAD.

I actually paid $125 for the combo off eBay including shipping from Montana but that was a while ago. And it was the Epi case which I prefer.
My '77 came with it's original owner's anvil road case, currently serving as my third bedroom.

Strung my Classic with a Nickel Lo-Rider 5 string set tuned to C-F-Bf-Ef. "Piano of doom " is now very appropriate indeed. I still need to tweak the setup a bit. I now understand the hate for the 3 point bridge - after it hit the floor and all of the saddles fell out, I almost ordered a Hipshot.
I'm thinking of going with flats on the VP when it gets here, but to those that have played both, which pickups are better for flats vs piano of doom rounds? I'll probably use the same tuning on both.

Well, seeing as how i had TB's in mine and now have Lollar's, (but in no means a comparison to the VP), i'll still say Cobalt's for flats.
I'm going to try LaBella Low Tension first. The skinny "B" string should make setup easier, and I get along well with the Labella tone. I put my 4 string 760FS set on the TBird temporarily yesterday, and it sounded nice. More authoritative than my P Bass, but similar old schoolyness.
You actually made me audibly laugh.
Just keep the 'bird horizontal when you're pulling all the strings off her is the lesson there. Or, just swap one string at a time.

I have two buddies stopping by my house at various points today. UPS has had an odd tendency to deliver even after I reschedule. They also have an odd tendency to leave large, expensive packages on my front doorstep even if a signature is required. So for all I know, there’ll be a bird waiting for me when I get back into town late tonight. Worse case, sometime tomorrow
