Kat - love the new avatar! But with all the previous banter, you really need to photoshop a pair of your sunglasses on that mug!

Edit: or better yet, photoshop your Cataldo bass in place of this FSO...

True story... Upon opening the shipping box this bass came in, the first words out of my wife's mouth were, "did someone just slap a neck on a toilet seat or does it normally come that ugly from the factory"?

Needless to say, it's one of her favorite sounding basses and a blast to play. Yep, a butt ugly keeper.

My reply to a similar thread some time ago. My Dano Longhorn. She's butt ugly but I love her. Kinda in the same way that it's impossible not to love a Pug dog (or that grumpy cat if your feline inclined):D

Shortly after the first auction for that white Gibson IV ended... I was talking with a friend of mine (the one who gave me the Les Paul), about watching that end with no bidders. He says, "So you still have that guitar? I thought you were gonna trade it for a bass". I said, "yeah... but it hasn't happened yet". He sez, "GOOD! yer keepin' it!". For the sake of brevity... I'll skip to the part where this Music Man showed up at my place!!!

"Merry Christmas" he said:wideyed: ......:jawdrop:...

Indeed... certainly better than I deserve

Don't downplay what you deserve. Every once in a while, some of us get dealt really difficult cards. It is then that family and very close friends help out in ways you can't imagine. It can change someone's life for the much, much better. Pay it forward.

When I started playing about 18 months ago, my brother, a guitar player, was excited; we could have some "noise" sessions. But, he couldn't find his amp. And having been out of work for over a year, wasn't in a position to just go get something. So, after a couple of months of being told not yet in response to the query "have you found you amp in storage yet?" I showed up with an amp. Told him "I got you a present" and to his wife "and I got you the exact opposite of a present". I don't know what impact it had on him, but it was something I could do that let him know that although it is tough now, but you have people in your corner.

Good news - just got the confirmation that my Ebony TB VP will be delivered tomorrow!:hyper:
Bad news - where I live in Southern California is surrounded by three out of control wild fires.

Hopefully I still have a house standing to deliver the bass to. :(
Stay safe !

I guess I skipped the page this post was on...

Happy about the bass for you but wow, I hope the winds change for the better and you'll make it out of that mess unscathed.

I know that the clear cutting of forests like in the past is horrible but perhaps much wider fire lines could be agreed to? This wild fire thing that Californians have to deal with year after year has to be an ecological disaster as well as an unbearable burden to the people of California. There has to be a way to fix this...

Well Here It IS!View attachment 2835234 View attachment 2835235 Iv'e only had a few minutes to play it but HOLY COW. I will get a couple more pic's later. The tone is wonderful. Very Deep and the growl is something I don't hear on my other bass. Going to be interesting to see what it sounds with the Strings I bought for it. DR High Beams. they had a BOGO free sale. It was worth the Wait for sure. And it weighs under 8 LBS. Good for my Back. Finally, I would love to join the Club. I think I can handle the Initiation.:woot:

That's amazing that your bass is coming in under 8 lbs. I'd have thought what with the chromed covers and P/UP rings, the oversized tuners and the two piece bridge plus paint that it'd be heavier. Cool!

Slightly offtopic but..

Do you think that the Embassy Pro would sound similar to the new T Vintage Pro?

I do want to get the Vintage Pro but it's not yet available over here. I have a new band project for which the Thunderbird would be great, maybe that Embassy could fill the gap meanwhile since it has the same pickups and bridge setup.

I briefly had an Embassy Pro. Mine had a few issues, so I sent it back though I was offered an exchange. Just didn’t blow my skirt up in too many ways. One of the main things was, to me at least, in only sorta kinda sounded like a T Bird. It was crazy light. Actually light to the extent that it added to the overall ‘cheapness’ of the instrument, in my mind. It just didn’t work for me, though it did sound pretty good. I have a buddy who loves his, so what do I know?!

I’m not sure if it’s the physics of a T Bird (slightly heavier, big ol’ headstock with more mass, etc), the fact that Embassy’s are made at a Chinese plant vs Indonesian for the Bird, or what. But the reviews for the VP are off the chart, even by folks who own lots of Gibson’s. Even vintage Gibson’s , where the Embassy reviews range from my not so good one to “its kinda neat for the price.”

Thanks, that helps. I though they were made in the same place.
