Actually, they're all insured for replacement cost. But what you can't ensure is that the replacement will have the same magic as the original. That's why the Eppi goes with me. The others going with me are mostly one of a kind or very rare instruments that would be difficult if not impossible to replace.

Proof that you belong with the rest of ....If it feels and plays good, I’ll hang onto it, even if that means a pickup swap or whatever. I could picture it with a complete chrome makeover too, but I could picture just about anything that way
I ship all my basses USPS Priority Mail insured for their actual value. That comes with a required signature on the receiving end..also gets a bass from Florida to California and all points between in three days or less. I make sure the bass is packed to withstand standard UPS testing (18" drop on all eight corners). Customers are notified in advance to inspect and photograph the box if it looks damaged. So far no problems. The last bass got to SoCal in two business days and the five before got where they were going a day earlier than projected by the P.O. That included full tracking info by text or email so they knew when they were arriving.
Verdict on playability? That's the big question. We already knew it is great looking.The ‘Bird has landed
My experience with UPS is that they can break almost anything. FedEx isn't much better. I have had the best luck with USPS, so long as whoever is shipping knows how to actually pack whatever they are shipping. That doesn't mean putting a bass in its case and then wrapping the case with one layer of loosely fitting cardboard.

Ok, I’ve had the thing for maybe 45 minutes, but I can list some bullet points.
Condition- terrific! It’s got buckle rash on the back, but that’s never bothered me. If you hold it in the light just so, you can see some small blemishes from use, but again, I’m not in the slightest bit put off by that. It’ll be a lot worse soon enough.
Weight- pretty dang light! Didn’t weigh it, but it’s light. Under 9 lbs, I’m guessing.
Playability- AWESOME. The neck is in pristine condition. The strings that came on it felt older than the bass itself. I had a set of DR SS Lo-Riders sitting around, so I slapped those on. They’re 45-105. Pretty sure a set of 50-110’s will be in this ones future. Not positive, but I’m thinking that’s what I’ll prefer.
Sound- I was nervous about this. The sludgier, bordering on muddy thing I’ve heard on some Birds is cool, but not what I’m looking for. So far I’m loving the sound of these pickups. Clear and beefy with that great ‘bark’ in the mids. Right now the bridge pickup is set higher than I’d normally have it and the neck pickup lower than I normally would, but it sounds great, so I’ll leave em alone until it becomes obvious that something needs to be tweaked.
Looks- I like it a lot and black hardware doesn’t usually stick around for long in my house, but it works perfectly well on this bass, at least for now.

Sounds like we live in the same neighborhood.Carrier reliability is local. My neighborhood carriers have made it clear that they will do their best to activley prevent package delivery. It’s not incompetence - it’s some kind of protest. I’ve gone to the PO to find packages that had faked delivery attempts and have seen a room full of people with the same complaints, so it’s not just me.
But it’s no big deal - I just use FedEx most of the time. Works fine for me so far
