Got two more songs tracked on this record session. Both on the new ‘Bird. This bass is so massive sounding in a track, without stomping on the guitars or getting too bright. This thing will be going to sessions for awhile

There's another thing. If guitars are played as the devil intended*, there's no reason for conflict on the frequencey spectrum.

Regarding body tilt...took like a minute to get used to it. I dunno, guess I don’t see what the big deal is.

This morning’s session was a blast. The tone is just so huge. First song, mainly the neck pickup and dialed in the bridge pickup for the desired amount of attack. Second song, neck pickup only. MASSIVE

Its definitely something you can get used to, but for me its easier to play without it. And "fixing" it costs 0$ and takes 3 seconds so for a slightly more comfortable position why not?

Had a rehearsal with a (more or less) rock trio. Singer/guitarist is 23. New to town, so me and a drummer pal are trying to help him develop his skills. Very promising kid. Brought the ‘Bird. First time playing it with a band

The drummer brought out a monitor we didn’t need. He said “with a proper rock bass you gotta do rehearsal with one foot on the monitor.” I told him my back was still a bit jacked up, so I was probably gonna use a barstool, yet he was insistent

Just like the session earlier, the bass made its presence known without stomping all over everyone else. I’m sure you guys are sick of me going on about this so much, but man, these basses are something special

There's a very good chance that this '01 COY lefty 4003 is the only one ever made. It's certainly the only lefty anything in Desert Gold on the RickRegister - where almost all COY Ricks wind up... And, the '94 Gretsch Broadkaster; have you ever seen a Lefty Gretsch bass? Don't feel bad; very, very few people have. If that really is a prototype? By all means, play it. I play both of these, too. I just play them carefully; gently; and "not much"...

Also, what strings are you using? We've got every type of string you can imagine on these Birds (flats, rounds, stainless, Nickel, cobalt, tapes, coated...) and rave reviews still come in regardless of string type. Always interesting to hear what others are using.

I use kite string, white nylon.
Actually D'Addaro 45-100 half-wounds, because reasons.
Probably goes back to the days when I tried to be a guitarist and learned that 'played it till my fingers bled' wasn't an exaggeration!

I'm blowing a bunch of money on different string types to dial in my tone right now. It's tough, because everything sounds good, but for a different reason. So far, I'm loving my already broken-in LaBella 760FS. The Low Tension flats came yesterday, but I used the lower 4 of a 5 string set. The B does not ring out at all. Those are definitely coming off. I'm going to try Roto 77s later today.

On my Classic, I have the lower 4 of a 5 string set of DR Nickel LoRiders. Sounds great and the low notes are very cool. I just have a hard consistently liking the sound of rounds - there's something sickly about them, and after a couple of hours, my ears want a change. That's why I've always liked flats better.

Thats kinda how I am, rounds dint works so well for me. However I have found I like DaDarrio Chrome flats and really like EB Cobalt flats.

Just changed all my Spectors to Optima 24k Gold Unique strings (except the frett-less) Round wound, 45 - 105 sets. Amazing tone, slick feel, and long lasting. I'll need to get a set for the Bird too. Just got to budget that cost at Christmas Time.
