got it. Apparently you can't run the amp so the cable is tight, clauses problems. so the GK is temporarily back on top of the cab. Need to get a longer cable to put it where I would like to have it.

In my mind, that thread equates to a bad carpenter blaming his/her tools.
I have played & recorded, Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, Spector and a few others. At they end of it all, I hear me. Good and bad.
The basses help point you in different creative directions and the tonal differences are real and contribute as well.
We called that “Driving Ralphys Bus”I mean commode hugging drunk.

Pretty ugly indeed. Same here, had to just get out.
There's definitely a place for a Jazz, but I don't think it's as versatile as a Bird. A big factor is the annoying 60 cycle hum you get if the pickups aren't set at the same volume. And the whole Jazz bass thing. It works for what it does, in the right situation. But as I had posted a bit back. The traditional single coil thing stopped working for me months ago. Hence the stacked humbuckers going into it.
I love plexi Marshalls! My '72 Major mine since '83, my main amp for years.Don't get me wrong there's a tool for every job, I have a Jazz, a Precision, and a 4HH Ray. But at least one person said something along the lines of a Jazz being very versatile tone-wise, which I highly disagree with. A Jazz is truly the polar opposite of a Bird, anemic single coil pickups. As for a Ray, if it's a standard 4H, than ya it is very different as well, but at least it is still a fairly aggressive sounding bass compared to a Jazz. But like you said, neither are, in any way, similar to a 'Bird.
Honestly I've only ever seen negativity on that forum. I bet if you went over there and made a thread saying how you love Marshal Plexi's, there'd be nothing but people saying how they suck.

Don't mean to call you surely.

...actually, it's how Tort is made, but don't tell anyone, it's a secret. The rainbow yawn.
Lots for folks can make a single coil Jazz bass sound awesome, but I ain’t one of em. The balance and ergonomics can be pretty great though. About two years ago, I tried really hard to embrace the J thing. Bought a really nice Fender CS 60’s style, played one gig with it and flipped it. It’s now someone else’s dream bass, which makes me very happy. Just before that, I traded something for a Lakland J with an East JRetro pre. Couldn’t ditch that thing fast enough. Then best one by far was a 60’s style Bluesman Vintage. I had my tech wire in a series/parallel switch. Better still, but at that point I just had to accept I’m not a J bass kinda dude. Nearly decided to put some Lollar ‘Bird pickups in it, but decided it just needed to move along. Can’t say I didn’t try, but they just don’t seem to be for me. Now when I see a cool looking J, I just think of what I’d replace the pickups with
Agreed. And a Bird is so much more versatlie then a Jazz, and just in general. Way more so then some give it credit for.

Which is why I want another one to string with flats for my country gigs![]()
