A few pocket knives never hurt anyone... at least none of mine
Depends on how they are used I suppose.
Thought about using guns (my other hobby) instead but figured someone would get all torqued (see what I did there) out.That analogy works for me!!

Yeah, I think we have a handle on it now.
Oddly enough, in Canada, the legality of carrying a knife depends completely on the intent of use, which can be subject to the officer's discretion. Meaning it is completely illegal to carry one for self-defence. That's why my main one is a considered a rescue knife, it has a relatively blunt tip, a seatbelt cutter, and a carbide glass breaker on the handle (learned the laws first, not from experience). I have never had to use it in such events, but it has come in handy to warrant carrying one, (i.e. when the rad hose on my truck broke, I needed to cut it past the break. Made it home without seizing the engine up)Depends on how they are used I suppose.

I always carry a pocket knife and a Zippo lighter. I have never smoked, both items were advice from my dad a WWII era Marine. A few years ago I got hassled by state troppers on the way home from a gig. Hauled out and patted down I had my trusty pocket knife in my back pocket, you'd think they found a assault rifle. Questions like why are you carrying a weapon, unbelievable. I calmly told them it's a tool not a weapon, it only becomes a weapon if I injured someone with it . Then I told them of my dad's advice then they backed off........a little.A few pocket knives never hurt anyone... at least none of mine
Ok, I quit. I'm gonna go play bass to some Bowie tunes for a while.
My next bass anology will be with Golf. Speaking of which I have a tournament in a few hours, that's just enough time for 4 Bowie tunes a shower and a half bucket of balls before tee time.

I used to carry a Zippo too, never smoked either, but the fluid always dried up and always forgot to fill it up, so I figured it's pointless to carry a lighter that was empty.
None of my family have served (that I know of), had to figure out that useful advice on my own.
The cop thing is hilarious, but sh!tty at the same time! Hope that was and will be the only time for you, and hope it never happens to me
. That's exactly what you have to tell police around here, that it is a tool, not a weapon. Even if they ask if you have a weapon, say no, but you are carrying a pocket knife as a tool.
Golf can be hit or miss with me. If it is a hit, I usually slice (see what I did there) it though.

At least with golf, you can call a mulligan.
When a man comes out of a dark alley holding a Rambo knife up to you he has no intention of offering you freshly buttered and sliced toast like grandma used to make. If those are his intentions than be sure to have a jar of jam , you wouldnt want to make the situation more f'd up than it already seems. Chances are he's hoping your holding.Depends on how they are used I suppose.
