Thunderbird Club

Most of my favorite artists are very tough to label and I prefer it that way!
My band that Im in is somewhat hard to label as my influences have led me to creating echoes of what I like into what we do as a unit. My band if I were to have full direction freedom would sound very complex. I would try to find the time to start another band but it would be extremely difficult to find other people to share the vision with. Music is fairly close minded in this era. Except for the few of us mature guy's that still preach it.

Asia was a tougher pill for me to swallow, especially back then. Now, I’m glad he finally got a chance to make serious dough at his craft. His playing with Family and Roxy Music was great too. Dude was a stud, RIP
I love his voice, I love Asia's first album too. John Wetton is a boss.

Finding like minded musicians is pretty tough anywhere, especially if you want to go to the outer fringes.

No kidding, I had ads out for 14 months just looking for a drummer to get started and finally a drummer and guitar duo reached out to me. I knew it wasnt going to be what I intended it to be but it is definitely something special and unique.

With band projects, you never 100% get your way and really, that’s what’s special about being in a band in the first place

Heck yeah!

One of many reasons i'm not in a band.

I get that too. Many of the best bands, however aren’t completely like minded and that’s worth considering. If every member allows the other members to be themselves, despite some differences. The whole can become much bigger than the parts, if that makes sense. Not to sound too dramatic, but I just can’t imagine my life without lots of music in it. Doubt I could cope

Totally agree! And it's not that i'm so full of myself as it is finding the right blend of people. I don't expect everybody to be like minded as much as being on the same page as far as the band context goes.
Maybe when ever all this family stuff i'm dealing with settles down, i can focus more on the music. But, that's a ways down the road right now.

Another bass great who played with Roxy was Johnny Gustaffson, the "Second Most Important Bassist" from the Merseyside Scene. He was a member of the very influential Cavern Club regulars "The Big Three" and played on "Love is the Drug" for Roxy, but was unceremoniously dumped after asking for a full band membership with Roxy (I don't think they've dome that for a bassist in over 40 years!). He died not too long ago. He was a great singer, and briefly co-fronted The Merseybeats in 1964. His name is rarely mentioned, which is a shame, as he was very influential on the Beatles and others, but never got the fame and fortune he probably deserved.

100% agree. I've gone into band situations with an idea, and the others' responses have sometimes made it better than I thought it could have been. Sometimes it also sucks, so you move on.
