Thunderbird Club

That sounds like an awesome trip y’all took! This drive wasn’t that :)

Just got to the in laws family farm. My second Christmas here. It’s 15 degrees. Not a fan of that part.

Gonna sleep for a couple hours.

Anyone have thoughts on a recently recapped and retubed SVTII non pro for $900? I sure used to love em, but after 15 years of being primarily an upright player, it’s been awhile since I’ve run a big all tube rig

You might want to get a hold of JimmyM, or BeansOnToast, they're the Ampeg guru's of TB.

Yeah, Jimmy is an old buddy. I’ve played enough SVT’s in my life to know, when they’re good, they’re really good. The last couple I had on backline gigs were less than stellar and one in particular was really bad. In general, I’m not a huge Ampeg fan, except for vintage B15’s and B18’s. But the right SVTII non pro can be a beautiful thing.

Also been looking at old Sunn, Mesa and others too

@Nocturnal owns a few IIRC.

I currently own 2 Epi NR's. I have owned 3 others over the years. They are basically your typical P bass in construction. Maple bolt neck, alder body P-J pickups. You can route the neck pick any way you want if you use a new pickguard. I would think that a Bird pickup with a ring would cover the Jazz pickup cavity no problem. The guy I bought one of mine from had planned to add Thunderbuckers to it but never got around to it. They are solid basses and I like them.

I hear ya on the Ampeg thing. As far as my 810 goes, i really want to go back to 12's.
Love both Sunn and Mesa, never owned any tube Mesa's, did have an M6 and M9. I did have a chance to play through a 400+ years ago. I loved it a ton!
I wouldn't mind a B15. And why am i not surprised you know Jimmy.

I met Jimmy years ago at a ShackShakers gig in Florida. Sweet dude, funny and a real deal player. We don’t always agree on the Ampeg thing, though there are some awesome examples out there.

I have an M9 and like it, but I’m looking for tubes. 400+ is one of my faves, but it’s been a very long time. For whatever reason, I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on a Strategy yet. I’m also afraid of something too small, because the low end goes to mush with a loud drummer. Looking for the sweet spot! Something with grit and grunt, but also enough headroom

You might want to seek out a Traynor YBA200.

On my search for Willow Mist Metallic I stumbled across this color, Indian Fire Red. Now I'm tempted to go with it...guess I'll have to come to a decision sooner or later...

You're probably better off for having done so.

One never knows. It makes crossword puzzles challenging at times. Plus, I don't know what people are talking about fairly regularly. Once you get used to it, that can be pretty satisfying.

There comes a point where keeping up with popular culture -- paricularly for those of us with no kids -- becomes a bit creepy. And yet even when completely divorced from it, it's still possible to discover new bands here and there, without even really trying.

Dude you're right next to Canada now. A side trip to nearest Long and McQuade is warranted.

Given that Birds are such muddy sounding instruments, it's incredible they seem to prefer flat upper mids and highs and gently boosted lower mids and bass.
Well, at least right up until the headstock explodes...

I axed my roommate, who spent a decade working at Gibson, why they didn't just add a volute to the neck/headstock joint. He said it was a combination of two things in his estimation: first, institutional inertia; it wasn't designed with one originally so not everyone agrees that it would help. 2nd, they didn't have anyone able to design one when he was there. I asked why they couldn't just borrow a Warwick, or buy one through back channels or whatever. He just laughed and said, "I know, right?"

The Strategy has multi-wattage switch. It’ll never be too quiet, and you can play near bedroom levels with it.

Sounds like the government.
