I've seen those Suzi Q Grecos come up on ebay now and then, but they don't quite do it for me - The PJ set up and headstock aren't speaking my language!
Mine is conventional in outward appearances, but has a very hot pickup, rock n roll simple controls - it's the Angriest Bird!

Would agree, I like the classic look of your Greco much more than the Quatro version. Is that a stock pup or replacement?

It's the stock pickup, it may just be that it works very well as a single rather than a two pup bass. For whatever it's worth, no two of my basses sound exactly alike, this one is definitely unique. The last show we played before my medical leave was New Year's Eve - I used the Greco for 2 of 3 sets and it was fantastic, very growly and aggressive with a pick, best $750.00 bass ever!

Now, here's what I don't like about the ad.

No mention of year of production/production #. For such a storied bass, where's the details? Were those basses made to order with different specs customizable by the purchaser? What PU's? Electronics? Is this an all original bass? Has it been restored? Maybe I'm wrong but this ad hit me as possibly rife with intentionally low information. Thoughts?

The guy is a major Hamer collector and knows his stuff. He is a member here and at other bass forums that I frequent. I bought my sunburst Hamer from him and he was very up front about all the details of the bass. Can't say why he doesn't have a ton of info on the listing but aside from the neck being slimmer it seems to be a stock bass in it's original finish. That red was a common finish for Hamer back then. He may not have any other details to offer about it or he probably would have it in there. If you were considering buying it, just reach out and ask any questions you have. He will tell you everything he knows about it.

It just hit me as odd, that's all.

Did they(yours) have serial numbers? Anything stamped into the headstock? Did you get the case candy with yours, Andy?

If I was hunting for one of these I'd certainly have a few questions and need more pics. I'm sure like you said, it looks legit and you've had prior dealings with him so that would make me feel better.

They have serial numbers stamped on the back of the headstock. Both of mine are from 86 I believe. The only case candy was a beautiful bass ;) One of them did come with a truss rod wrench in a plastic bag with the Hamer logo on it :thumbsup: My red Blitz came with a letter from Paul Hamer telling the original owner that they had received and documented his warranty card. Also had the original receipt from 1983.

Does anyone know what type of strings come standard on the classic pro? I saw a post about them being D'addario half rounds?? I like the feel but they don't sound as good as the fat beams on my Goth. But they have a better feel, the fat beams are not as easy to slide around on.

I thought I read somewhere that they're D'Addarios but I don't remember for sure. Ernie Ball announced that they're introducing a brand new string set at NAMM this year, a cobalt flat. The speakers that I'm running my TV through aren't great, but those strings were really interesting from the report I saw of them at the show. I don't have cable, so I watched a clip as part of the NAMM 15 coverage on the Youtube channel on my Roku.

I real like the low tension of DR strings but those fat beams are rough. Might have to check out some black beauties they'd look great on the white pro. I'll look for the EB Namm report as well. Thanks Haji!!
