Thunderbird Club

Well just so Duke isn’t alone, here’s a Vintage Sunday. My 62 P-Bass with ACC 371 rig (I think early models)

Don’t mind the hand at the top, sun in the window was messing with the picture. (No I didn't add 'filters' either, the difference between the two are from different amounts of natural lighting and ceiling lighting)

Ok folks, let's work our way to 4000!

But let's not take the same boring path the Spector guys take with their "first Friday" pics, always the same picture each month. Instead, how about we do a monthly theme shoot on the first Thursday of each month. lets make it special, none of those standard wall hanging Bird pics, let's see some creativity.

So how about it, let's make January "Birds with pets" month.
If you have a pic of your lovely pet with a TBird in the shot post it now!

February could be "birds with wheels" (gotta drool over Veronica's Subie/bird shots)
March - "birds in action" for your favorite live action shot
April - "Easter Birds" those rare Easter egg pastel colored birds
May - "Birds in the garden" May flowers and your bird in the garden
June - "wild card" post any bird related pic you want
July - "patriotic birds" show the colors of your country or home town with the bird
August - "Alternative Birds" any non Gibson/Epiphone TBird shaped object
September - "hot rod birds" any brand modded to your liking
October - "spooky birds" any Halloween themed pic with a Bird in it
November - "fall birds" an outdoor shot of the bird with some fall colors in it
December - "holiday Birds" a pic of your bird in whatever holiday setting you celebrate that time of the year

Let's get to 4000!!!
One change I would make is switch the June and February, for us that get snow and sub-zero temperatures

Vintage Sunday it is, though I don’t have much. Scott and Carlo sure do!

On the left is a 1962 Bobcat. Awesome guitar. On the right is some oddball thing I got for $69. Labeled ‘Montoya.’ Keep meaning to put new strings on it. Has a cool sound in its own junky way

There is something about the one on the right that I really like. Not sure why but I always look at them when I see one on eBay.

View attachment 2867634 Rumourz had a great gig at The Buffalo Iron Works in Buffalo NY last night. Despite the cold we packed the place to a very enthusiastic crowd, we kept them right to the end. The second to last song was The Chain, when I stepped up to play the bass solo the reaction from the crowd was crazy, in all my years of playing I have never experienced anything like it. Great fun used my beat 66 NR most of the night. Here's a pic, they almost got the bass away from me. Note to self don't get to close to the audience!

Great picture Scott! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Regarding theme days or months, Thunderbird Thursday etc, it's fine by me, let's just have it be like the thread currently is, respectful and fun.

Yeah, but you know: When you want something done - Do it yourself...

I hate having to rely/wait on others...
This x 1000.

Also, thanks for the help with GB. In that case, I’ll just stick with Sound Studio, which I’ve been using for ages, to string them all together and add blank space in between. I’ve never been able to warm up to GB.

Sounds like I'm gonna have to adopt a cat and save for a Cataldo.

Well, start with something that doesn’t claw up your furniture first. Just my suggestion :)

I love looking at those 60’s Japanese basses too. Something really innocent and beautiful. The fact that they typically come up a tad short in execution is part of their charm, I think. Those slightly cheesy burst finishes always put a smile on my face :)

Here's a rare vintage Thunderbird II that I'm hoping to see in person when I travel to Germany. From 1986, one of a very small custom run by Gibson that year.

How do you play the solo from The Chain. I’ve been mucking around with it from a tab I found via google. :)
I used it to compare basses at the (fairly) recent OzBass Sydney GTG.

Oh good, i'm just happy this place exists.
Yes, me too.

A little bit o’ vintage:

1968 Eminar 100w valve.

Japanese c’1960s Tiesco ‘Challenge’ Bass. I have some foam under the strings at bridge to make it my ‘thumpin Stick’. Would flats do the same job without the foam ?
Nice!
I vote flats and foam.

Seriously cool looking stuff!

What? NO Tort Tuesdays, where we pointlessly bang on about tort for the day?

If you insist! Wait, I don’t really have a bass with tort at the moment...
