Official leathers tester and crash dummy
I did some more finish work on the P-Bird and wasn't 100% thrilled with the results. I may disassemble it and put a couple coats of clear on it. Which means I could put a 'Bird logo on it in the right place, but under the clearcoat. No pickguard at all. Chrome, of course.
The abalone are B-stock from eBay, seller in CA. I was super nervous to order them when I first saw them but then Kat said she's bought the same ones and hers were fine. The other 2 are custom colors from Justin at JAT on eBay.
I'll take that for you, just so you don't have to worry about it!
Tied together? I thought they would be neck through, but whatever works.
I was planning on going pickguard-less on both my CP's. When the first one arrived and I took off the PG I was disappointed to see the small cavity there. I'm happy with the way I've dressed up my PG's, but I still think it's an awesome idea!
The JAT knobs came up in general discussion either here or over on Carlo's build thread -- it may have been @hillerup who first mentioned them. The abalones I found on eBAY, my first set were posted from Sweden, the other set came from the USA.

We talked about Justin from JAT here the other day. Nice guy a few hours away from me in Florida. On both eBay & Reverb and has a Facebook page too with lots of pics of custom requests he's done.
...And yes, I have eight speed knobs when I only need one. At the time, it was anticpated 5 or 6 were going to be required.
They all come out of the same factory in China, they'll be fine.
I was a bit disappointed myself to see the cavity underneath, looks great without a PG in my opinion.
Check out JAT on eBay or Reverb and his Facebook page too. I've ordered several custom sets from him, including the 2 with the neon green on the way now.
Looking at the site now. it's a tough choice, but trying not to get to outlandish. I've got a Sunburst Classic Pro, with lots of red in the main color of the body.
I love it, but want to try something different color wise, but something that still goes with the red.
I hear ya. For my VS CP I got (not from JAT, off eBay) black with bronze numbers and it matches the black PG with bronze Tbird logo vinyl. Love it!
Justin will customize any colors so the hardest part is making up your mind what you want. Which is why I ordered 2 sets recently b/c I couldn't decide!
My chrome ones are great! No issues. Let me know when you’re ready. It was only the black and the white ones that had issues.
I had asked JAT if he could do black speed knobs with green numbers. He said he only has knobs with numbers in black, white, and RED. Hmmmmm... something to think about.... ?
My thing is, i've got my bass chromed out. Trying to find something that doesn't clash with that is a little challenging, already found several things i like, but may be a bit to flashy.

Ok, this started sounding way too familiar to me so I went back and checked and I was wrong. The bronze logo on my VS CP did not come from NY, it came from MI. From a guy who said he was looking for a new supplier and was out of white & black (which is why I ordered the white from Spain!)
