Thunderbird Club

So far I am digging my Genz Streamliner 900, but have not used it outside of the house yet. Has a 3 tube pre and gets gritty. My friend has the Aggy Tonehammer 500 and it is quite nice. I have heard good things about the Aggy AG700 as well but haven't tried one yet. I like Mesa stuff but a tech I know says that they are a regular item that crosses his bench. I think the Big Block 750 sounds nice and growly and like something I could hang with.

I had a Titan V12. Amazing sounding amp, but it was problematic. That era Mesa had a lot of problems. The same guy who designed the Streamliner designed the Mesa D800 and mine has been bombproof for at least 400 shows. The Streamliner is a great sounding amp, though the eq is a bit fussy in tough rooms, IMO

Took my ‘pedalboard’ to a rehearsal tonight. Tuner, Reiner Gasoline OD, Dunwich Volt Thrower and EHX Canyon. As much as I think I have two of the nicer dirt boxes, I just don’t find dirt that useful and no box sounds as good as driving a tube amp. They sounded nice on a few things, especially the Gasoline. I just got the Canyon today, so i havent messed with it too much. Was able to dial in a very nice modulated delay that sounded kinda like a chorused verb. That came in handy on some things. Need to spend more time getting to know it for sure. I have such a love/hate thing with pedals!

They are, it's fact. Cept for the gnarly bridge. It's a nice bridge but looks stupid on it. Eventually I'll swap it out. Otherwise, no difference from the '13
Agreed. I don’t love the looks of the Hipshot, but it doesn’t bother me and the functionality is great.

I have a love/love thing with my A/O. It has two switches on it: Bite and Growl. The Thunderbird simply doesn’t need them. At our last rehearsal tonight I decided to try them out to see how they did in the mix. Same opinion. I love how the Thunderbird just doesn’t need a lot of help.

You have a pair of GK amps don’t you?

Yes a Fusion 550 and a MB Fusion 500, but I thought the amp being discussed was a TC amp or maybe a MM, I got confused?
My understanding is that both of mine are hybrids in they have valves in the preamp and solid state power amps.
The Fusion 550 is class A/B, I believe and the MB Fusion 500 is a Class D.

Yeah, the MB Fusion is the same chassis as the regular MB. How do you like that one? I never heard one. Just my MB500.

Yeah, no real trick to getting an aggressive sound out of a Thunderbird. At home, I LOVE the Volt Thrower, but at rehearsal I just didn’t find it useful for what I was doing.
I’ll keep chipping away at it!

MB550 is pretty great :)

I have more of a small forest creature caught in bright lights relationship with pedals. My first pedal (tuner) came in early 2016 -- before that I used a tuning fork!

I am fascinated and simultaneously repelled by pedals, and now that I'm down to three, which in the normal course of operations should all remain OFF, I think the fever has run its course.

I’m sure, but I just don’t have the space or need for one. Of course “need” doesn’t mean much here.

For now....

I gig the MB Fusion 500 a lot because it is lighter.
It is very similar tonally to the Fusion 550, but there are a few small differences. I need to boost the bass a little more with the MB and the Fusion 550 gets some really loud peaks when you dig in sometimes- the MB not so much. More even tempered.
