Kinda premium priced sucky choices. The Mesa 88 is about the only one on the list I'd even give a second glance to, and it's priced absurdly. I'd imagine your used market down there is pretty tight as well. The land of Oz might not be the place to hunt for gear. Maybe you should click your heels three times, Kansas probably has a better selection and better prices. Of course shipping will be a bitch, its gonna be tough for him indoors to strap an SVT under his trucker jacket and still get past security. These are my local choices if I'm window shopping: Link Removed
If an SVT didn't weigh more than a 11 year old kid, you might be onto something.Nah, just ship the whole crate of jackets to the US, load parts into the jackets and ship back. A perfect disguise AND the jackets provide useful padding.![]()

6550s are probably not what Customs officials are expecting to find in a cavity search...

I’d certainly like to see someone try to pull that off, though.6550s are probably not what Customs officials are expecting to find in a cavity search...
Tube power, SS pre.I think they're solid state reissues though.
But I wouldn't mind giving one a spin
Tube power, SS pre.
That's the weirdest hybrid I've ever heard of!
Now I really want to try one!
*Starts flipping through my little black book of GAS. Jots down MM amp*The original MM amps were like that -- SS pre and valve output stage.

Thanks guys, I think I need a new little black book soon.
Anyone know the reasoning for that?"The BH 500 amp features a solid state preamp and a 500-watt analog power amp"
The original ones were definitely hybrid....
Anyone know the reasoning for that?
Solid state can still be analog though, but I don't know how well a digital power amp would work. Digital pre on the other hand, you could have infinite possibilities for effects and tones.
If I were looking for an actual class D head now, it would probably come down to a choice between TC, Aguilar (AG700) or Mesa.
100% Thunderbird!
My ideal FSO is a P with a J neck. A J with a P neck would be vaguely weird.
Played a few gigs with the TC as backline. I just don’t get it with those. The Aggies are cool, but I’m super happy with my Mesa.
P bass with a J neck was my main bass for years. Very cool setup!

I knew Class D doesn't mean digital, but amps like TCE's and the Bergantino B|Amp are digital amps.'Analog' means Class A/B presumably, although Class D is not actually 'digital' (common misconceptions #64974).
So far I am digging my Genz Streamliner 900, but have not used it outside of the house yet. Has a 3 tube pre and gets gritty. My friend has the Aggy Tonehammer 500 and it is quite nice. I have heard good things about the Aggy AG700 as well but haven't tried one yet. I like Mesa stuff but a tech I know says that they are a regular item that crosses his bench. I think the Big Block 750 sounds nice and growly and like something I could hang with.
