Thunderbird Club

Alright, can of worms... opened!

I could go over to the Amps side, but I trust you guys. So here we go. I'm a bedroom player with a Fender Rumble. The thing shakes the entire house, but I know it's a 25 watt combo amp for practicing at home. But, what if I'm starting to think about taking it to the next level and trying to find a local band to play small gigs. What rigs can I start looking at and what price range would be for respectable small venue gigging but not too crazy? I have no clue about heads, amps, whatever, except what I've been reading about so I want to get edu-macated and have the proper gear if and when I choose to take the plunge.

Thanks!
My current amp is a markbass cmd 121p It’s a 300w combo with a single 12” speaker, and for the pub gigs we do it’s more than loud enough. There’s an extension socket for another 8 ohm cab which opens up the full 500w, and this is something i’m Looking into in case we get some bigger gigs. The quality is excellent and the EQ is very nicely adjustable. Plus it’s light as a feather (under 30lb I think).

Personally would go with this one GS414B I have both, and for no quantitative reason, I prefer the one I linked YMMV

Thunderbirds don't like Hercules racks very much... I speak from experience

But I wouldn't use anything else with Thunderbirds besides Hercules.

My GS412B is put away most of the time, to prevent it being used as a cat activity centre.

That's a good reason.
My GS412B is holding a g**tar that can't use a normal stand.
My GS414B's are occupied by Thunderbirds

My dog can't be away from us, so I'm not worried about her ruining any of them. When no one's home, the doors get shut

A force to be reckoned with! :)

Are each amp driving a separate cab, or are they bridged in some way?
The DR201 drives the 2×15 and a 4x12, the DR103 drives one 4x12. I run the DR103 a little dirtier with more treble than the 201.

You’ve heard the opinions of those who know what they’re talking about, so now here are my thoughts on the Vintage Pro. Sorry for the rubbish sound and appalling technique, but there you go!

I was almost too distracted by that fabulous wall paper to pay attention to the review! The bass sounds great. I'm actually surprised at how much I like the sound through the MarkBass amp. Really dig that overdrive tone as well. Really though, the wallpaper is just amazing.

The wallpaper was a lucky find in the bargain bin at Homebase last year - it brightens up my playroom/study a bit that’s for sure!

Think I’m caught up though I may have missed something :)

Well, from an uneducated viewpoint.

I wouldn’t discount the Rumbles in the class D arena. They get some love. The cabs as well as the 200 & 500 combos. I’ve had a weather eye out for a Rumble 115 cab to join my little grouping. Don’t seem to come up much; certainly not at my ‘jump point’.

I lot of people love the GKs as well.

That Bassman 300 Neo 610 looks like a ‘dream come true’ setup. There are other alternatives in the Bassman line that may interest. The Bassman 100 is a valve amp and can run at 25w for practice or recording situations. The Bassman 500 is a Bassman valve pre combined with the Rumble 500 Class D power section. (I hope I’m using the correct terminology) in a Bassman style enclosure but lighter weight. Looks good though!
The Neo cabs also come in 115 flavour. So there are other combinations than 300 valve + 610 if the Bassman is a way you’d like to go. I’ve read a user report from a Neo 115 owner saying the Rumble 115 isn’t as good, but not a million miles away from his Neo 115s; but far better on the dollars.

Anyway, I run old stuff cause it’s cheaper and I found stuff I like.

Remember there is likely a different answer for each one of us.

Aaaaand... I've now added all of this info to my Check It Out list! Thanks!

If I decide to go combo, that would be perfect! It's now on the list! Thanks!

I figured you meant EQ. ;)

Too many and not enough. Have a great trip! I cannot keep up with this club when I’m away from my normal routine so I don’t even try anymore.

Was able to jump on for a few minutes this morning but did need to jump past a few pages. It went from 3108 to 3120 in 24 hours! I will be 58 pages behind when I get back from the trip.

Andy and I are looking for black Top Hat (Bell) knobs with red numbers on them - Like Gibson used on their limited run of "Voodoo" guitars:

But they are virtually impossible to find. Only found one guy who had them, but he's been out of stock for quite some time now.

If JAT can make the Voodoo knobs I definitely want two sets. The silver you posted would look cool as well on the right bass.
Silver reflectors on an ebony Epi VP?? Hmmmmmmmmmm.......
