I would never have considered gold strings, but damn they look great on the gold bass.
Years ago I knew some folks that had a dog named "Diogi"(pronounced dee-OH-jee). When I asked about the name, they jokingly said, "It's Italian for dog". I said, "What???". They said, "Dog... D-O-G... or 'Diogi'!"
This wasn't in Portland Oregon by any chance?
If anybody is curious about the Eppi VP headstock size vs the standard Gibson size here's the two aligned at the nut...
The VP is about 1.5 inches longer (those of you subjected to metric scales can do the math).

I have to have a fairly defined 'requirement' for a pedal before buying one. Is it something I would ever use?
Spent months going to and fro with myself over a chorus and in the end decided a flanger was better -- because George Murray's bass is flanged on 'Heroes' and I'd rather have that than any chorus. So chorus out, flanger in. The weird thing is the flanger sounds much nicer in front of a big valve head than it does through a solid state preamp.
The ex compressor (it should arrive at its new home in Queensland today) was there to overcome shortcomings in a bass I no longer have. The fact that it was a way cool comp didn't justify keeping it there not to use it. I don't need magic fairy dust, I've got Thunderbuckers.

Speaking of GAS and odd GAS, I just put in a lowball offer for a Ludwig snare. I already have an aluminum Ludwig snare. This one is steel. I hope the Duke of Mark magic has spread itself around. Or maybe I don't. The last thing I need is another snare drum. But, I want another one, and if I get it for the offer, I'll be happy.
Let me fix that: those of you using ISO measurements can do the maths.
IDK - I guess it all depends on which period you're talking about '60s or '70s or other??? I'll defer that judgement to @TBird1958 or @godofthunder59
The only remotely negative thing I can say about the VP is that I personally prefer about 3 full wraps of string around the post. Only two wraps can be problematic when removing and reinstalling strings for fretboard cleanings and if you only have one wrap you run the risk of string slippage to flat when tuning or playing.
With my anniversary bird I can easily get three full wraps around the small G string tuning peg, even after trimming 3-1/2" off the string.
On the VP I can just squeek by with one full wrap if I don't trim any of the string...
...with long scale strings that's "cutting" it a bit close in my book. No problems yet, but I have to admit it's always on my mind when I'm tuning that G string or digging in hard while playing.
Are those still the stock strings?

Yes. I have a set of DR Silver Star coated strings coming to replace them. I hope the coating doesn't make them too slippery for a one wrap tuner peg, better yet, I hope they are at least 60" in length then I can get multiple wraps.
