Carlo had no idea how thoroughly you would use and abuse that thing when he sent it to you! There's not enough electronic manipulation going on. MORE THEREMIN!
Actually I had hopes he would. I particularly wanted to find out if he could make the pickup microphonic. It's difficult to tell but the track is fantastic.

Ha! I hope I’m not causing Carlo too much shame! Yeah, it’s a lot of manipulation right now. Hopefully more ideas will come from a compositional angle...that’s the hope, anyway

I was hoping for Cinderella covers.

Haha! On it! Well, probably not :)
The TB ‘66 is not microphonic in the least. For the ‘drums’ I just tapped on the bass in various locations with a mic and no amp, loaded the sounds into a sampling drum machine, did a little pitch shifting and programmed a beat. There’s a bigger sounding ‘sub kick’ that involved a Dunwich Volt Thrower and EHX Cock Fight pedal.

The guitarish ‘lead’ sound was a Red Panda Particle into the Cock Fight, then an EHX Canyon pedal. The main bass part is just the NR41 with Chrome flats into a Reiner 6SL7 pre and a little compression. The bass with its current setup does a very reasonable Jamerson/Motown kinda bass tone

That's pretty awesome. I like my music to come out of garages, swamps, bayous and modern jazz, with a bit of noir and goth thrown in.

I am the same, aside from the jazz. Still can't seem to connect with jazz. Also throw in a bit of sleaze and dirt and I am a happy (old) boy.

I'm in the same boat... I can listen to most music but please don't ask me out for an evening of jazz.

I just can't listen to it... I've tried to be open to it and it just doesn't connect.

Thanks for the info! I was pretty sure I wasn't going to hear any microphonics, Steve's been potting pickups since the early 70s. Nice thumpy bass underneath!

Thanks! I like that thumpy tone for a lot of things, so glad to know there’s a very easy way to get there :)

My brother says I'm really a drummer. Beats me whether he's right or I should be really pissed. I absolutely love the physicality of playing bass or drums.

this raises two questions.

First, are you good at being fired? That's a drummer's destiny, you know.

Second, a possible chainsaw juggler would know what is the best chainsaw for Metal?

Hey, had the flu.

It sucked.

What did I miss? ;)

I'll be popping in here & there. Now that I got rid of the flu I need to get in more practice time & play around with a buncha new gear I bought recently (Fender Partscaster P bass, amp & cab, pedal.)

Hope all is well with you guys!

Glad you're feeling better. Took me almost 3 weeks to get over my sick. How's the 112av working out?

I've been wondering about you! I'm glad to hear you're recovering:)

Did you get your new amp & cab?

Thanks. Opening it up this afternoon. That's how sick I was. Freaking box has just been sitting there and I was staring at it from my bed, wanting to open it up and play with my new toy... but had zero energy to do it or anything else. That's some messed up flu going around. Lol!

Advice sought....

I have a Epiphone Gothbird that I picked up used, cheap, slightly beat up. I’ve set it up and put new strings on it but am not happy with the sound at all. I love the look and feel though. Any suggestions for good pickups to fit this beauty?

I was thinking about EMG’s TBHZs because I love the EMGs on my Spector but I’m no expert and would appreciate people with more experience’s input.

Thanks.

First, congrats on the bass. First TBird?

Second, have you played at all with P/Up height? The distance from the strings to the P/Ups can really affect the sound you'll get out of them. Play with that and see if you can get an improvement before splashing out for upgrades.

...and now for something completely different.

Check out that P/Up and its location. Thoughts?

I would love to have heard it plugged in but I know I wouldnt have loved the sound at all. As it is for me personally I rely on the thump of the neck pickup and on 3 out of 4 of my basses I have the treble pickup turned completely off. I cant imagine what this fellow was looking for with that location but he's really happy and thats what counts.
