So here's the color thing - the 1991 with Cobalt Flats and Chinabuckers comes across with a lot of black, and purple/blue/electric blue. The 2001 with Black Beauties and stock pickups has a lot of black, too, but it colors toward maroon and purple.

Those are really nice basses, set neck and great QC. Sonically it's like a Non Reverse due to the construction, the pickups are chrome plated TB Plus (why Gibson couldn't make for the U.S. market is a mystery), nice, big headstock! I love mine, not sure how the price translates into USD.

It's like a Rolex vs a Timex, they both do the same thing (for the most part), no less no more. But one is more desirable and worth more, just like nitro... just not as much of an extreme.

When you buy it or later? If it's poly, perhaps you could bargain the seller down a bit. Then again, what does a poly finished Epi go for in Oz these days? And, unlike duplicate trucker jackets, there's no reason to sell it.

Purchase price mainly, as there would be no intention of selling it on at any point.

I'm not sure if the price is good or not. It is pretty much a Japanese Gibson, right?

That's a good price, first white one I've ever seen, most are burst. The stock pickups are certainly not bad, while I've thought about Lulls. leaving it stock hasn't hurt it all ..

Yeah, it's not so much that I hate the stock pickups out of hand, more that the 66S will be spare...

A little string thought. I played the 2001 with its new bridge at last night's rehearsal. Aside from an eyelash of intonation at the 12th fret and strings that could be lowered a little, it sounded great. It's got Black Beauties on it. They sat nicely in the mix, but... There's one song that leads off with a bass and guitar riff. The 1991, with Chinabuckers and Cobalt Flats does the angry piano sound like there's no tomorrow on that riff. The 2001, with stock pickups and Black Beauties isn't quite as angry or as piano. It sounds more like a Precision that grew up, grew a beard, and grew horns, but isn't quite angry or quite a piano. Both are great. They are just different.
