I intend to on the Cataldo and the ‘14 Gibson. Waiting to see how the Lollars sound before making that decision
Started asking the tech what’s up yesterday. He just said “it’s in the que, near the work bench.” Should I trust a tech who can’t spell queue?

Just the thing to do on the Cataldo. The Lollars are great pup's, i thought they couldn't get any better, out came the tone curcuit. To my ears, i way prefer it this way. But you might be able to tell a little something from the '14.
A good tech should be able to spell better then the musician.

Even with the tone wide open, it is still cutting highs. Removing it gives you more clarity and definition.

He’s a decent tech and did a serviceable job on a few of my basses. He just sucks with deadlines. Example, after telling me there were 20 instruments in front of mine, he still said he’d likely have it done in a couple days. That’s just silly. I’ll give him 10 days before I start getting bummed.

In some cases, taking the tone knob out of the circuit adds a bit of presence and seems more ‘open’ sounding. I had the tone removed on the Drake and preferred it. Same with my Gretsch and one parts/frankenbass. I will definitely do this to the Cataldo and most likely my Gibson’s

I'm not a tecnical guy, but it simply cuts highs. Kinda like a tone cap, where it's reducing highs.

In Audio, the shortest wire makes for the purest tone. The tone circuit is one extra thing in the signal path. Not that the difference is always night and day, but there’s a difference.

One time, I was having cable put in the house and the dude installing it kept telling me he was Earl Thomas Conley’s band leader. Earl had more number one country hits in the ‘80’s than anyone. The guy was super annoying, singing really loud, trying to get me to listen to his demos...I just wanted the cable installed and working before the girl got home! Maybe 6 months later, I’m on tour with Mark Collie and Earl Thomas Conley, and sure enough, cabledude is his band leader!
I used to go to the same coffee place every day and every day this one kid was there working and gave me his business card. He was a drummer and knew everything about me. Creeped me out! Within a couple years he became one of the hottest drummers in town. Never know around here

Removed the TRC on the new Bird to check the lie of the land. The truss rod nut is a 'bullet' type. What tool do I need for adjusting it?

I got my Gibson truss rod wrench 20 - 25 years ago. Now the only ones I can find, look like the one vandoorn posted...

Makes sense. I'd love to hear an A/B comparison between one with tone on full and another with tone completely out of the circuit.

It's the NR I've having converted to left-handed. So it will be a reverse non-reverse.

I’ve never done an a/b clip with and without a tone circuit, but basically, if you ALWAYS keep the tone full up and wish the bass had a bit more presence, just rip the tone circuit out and you’ll get a bit more. lots of people use em and like em, so this mod ain’t for everyone. To me, a passive tone knob does exactly what the name implies...it removes TONE. I don’t want that. If the bass is too bright, I’d rather change the eq on my amp because rolling back the tone knob does more than tame brightness to me and I don’t personally like it on most of my basses

You didn't hire Shakespeare. Then again, Shakespeare couldn't spell anything the same way twice, so maybe it's a sign of his brilliance.

I love t-handle wrenches. I find them more useful than ratchets for a whole lot of things and easier to use than wrenches with a screwdriver handles.
