Range alters the mid corner frequency -- sort of a passive parametric -- I keep it on zero.

Scoop is satan's knob -- don't touch it.

Resonance is a feedback control for the power stage. Less = tight, more = big bouncy bassy pillow.

From left to right, the approved Kat settings are (in panel numbers)

Gain: 7 (I know, I know)
Treble: 2 + Bright OFF
Mid: 10
Range: 0
Bass: 10
Scoop: we will never speak of this control again
Resonance: adjust the boom to the room

PS. I hear you. Bass, Mid, Treb and Pres would have been fine with me...

I agree with this mostly, but I've been playing mine with the D Bird, which is more "modern" sounding than the T Bird.
Gain (where you want for the amount of break up you desire, master to listening level)
Treble 2, bright switch a waste of circuitry
Mid 5 (seems to be voiced quite high)
Range 0, just seems to narrow the amount of cut
Bass 10
Scoop, another waste of circuitry
Resonance, varies depending on sealed or ported cab. I'm doing multiple sealed 210's or an 810.

I really like this amp. A little more powerful than a V-4, and a little more versatile, IMO.
