I know I’ll never be good enough to play out since I started too late in life but I have fun in my music room and sometimes I get to play music with my kids which to me is the best. They have really gotten pretty good and have left me in their dust but it makes me proud. :)

Hey, Larry, I've only been at it for 5 years and I'm quickly becoming one of the go-to guys in my area. You don't need to be an Entwistle. C'mon Cliff Williams (AC/DC) and Ian Hill (Judas Priest) went on and had successful careers pedaling root notes. Face it, find a great front man and guitarist and hang on for the ride. I have absolutely no qualms riding someone else's coattails.

Larry… any musician wortha damn, is his/her own worst critic. I've seen your videos of you jammin' at your kid's school & stuff like that. I don't think you're as bad off as you think you are. As a drummer… I've played with stiffs that had no business with an instrument in their hands (giggety), and you're not that guy! I'm no more a music teacher than I am a psychologist… but I think that maybe you're focussing too much on trying to be what you consider to be "good", and not enough on just enjoying what you're doing. I think @StraffordMike hit on something there. Dig into some Cliff Williams. Pick a couple tunes ya like, & rail on 'em… and keep railin' on 'em until you start vibin' on 'em & don't hafta think so hard about what you're doin'. Ya start getting' comfortable with 'em… ya loosen yer grip a bit… ya start bobbin' yer head to the music yer playin'… ya know the song & know where the changes are & start makin' 'em real smooth. If you can get to that point with one or two songs… I think you'll find that the next ones will come easier. If you're anything like me… it's important to be alone during this process. I can't have it in my mind that somebody might hear me sucking this bad. The inhibitions hafta be down… kinda like singin' in the car (or shower or what have ya). Until I don't suck… it's the only way I can make any progress. If it helps at all… consider all the poor saps in the world, that wish they had the guts to try what you're doing… and the number of people who will go to their graves wishing they had! There are a lotta bass players out there on stages right now, as I'm typing this, who are making people scream & holler & shake their arses, by thumpin' out eighth note roots like they mean it! Try to convince me you ain't got that in ya… & I'll drive across the state just so I can call you a liar to your face!:bassist:
