Zebrawood Tuesday.
One of 400 part of Gibson's Guitar of the Week from a few years back. I like the black hardware on this specific bass, it looks right. As I recall Uwe thought it a bit subdued compared to a standard Thunderbird, I didn't really notice any difference though.

Quintuple like.
Was patiently awaiting this one. When i first saw this in the row of Gibsons, it seemed that the body, front to back seemed a little less thicker to me.
Probably just perceiving it to be that way, maybe because there's no actual finish coating?
Anyway, i love it.
EDIT; my 2 faves so far are this and the EB-650. Ok, who am i kidding, love them all.

Going back a few pages, I'll answer the question about why the fanned frets. The differing string lengths by string add a great deal of balance tonally. Ever played something where you hit that G string and it sort of disappears? Conversely, have a floppy E string (especially when tuned down). This eliminates that. My band tunes down two whole steps (CFBbEb). The E string (or in my case C) is a 36.25" scale, so it is tight and punchy like a regular 4 string tuned standard (and I don't need a big ol low B string for it like you would on some basses).

Nice! Thank you. I researched a bit and although Wiki was pretty comprehensive, it referenced a number of instruments not answering the specifics of how it applies to a bass guitar.

What is absolutely hilarious to me is, I had (still have) a white Thunderphone that I actually preferred the tone of until I put the Lollar pickups on. The modern Gibson pickups were not the right tone that I fell in love with growing up. The Epiphone's were closer on the neck-through passive model, but thank goodness for Lollar. (almost went Thunderbuckers, but the audio clips put them very close, and the Lollars were easier to get)
