Thunderbird Club

Looks like the custom shop will still make those. I'm very intrigued.

That's cool - Seymour made them exclusively for T-bird's back then. (it was in the ad copy) When I bought it (around $80 at a local music store) I sent a letter (pre-net) and received a hand written letter back from him on how to wire it up. Ah, the days of real human connection... (I still love writing on paper)

From what i see on the SD site now, they're 160 for a single, 300 for a pair.

And i hear ya on the days of real human connection, and writing...........

Yeah he's outta Santa Barbara. Good friends with my ex inlaw.

Oh I thought so. Didn't know it had an after market mod. Did you do that?

Yep, in '87 and with no regret. I recall having the guy assisting me at the school shop (I was teaching at the Kansas City Art Institute) mentioning that it would take it out of the 'vintage worth' pool and as it was my only bass then and knew I would always own it, I just smiled and said - let's go!

Think about this: In 1975 we thought 1955 was this fascinating era from long ago. Now that's the equivalent of being enthralled with 1998:wacky:

1998 was a great year. Bill Clinton had an affair with an intern (before anyone had heard of me too), Google was founded (not long after Al Gore invented the internet). But we did lose Senator Sonny Bono and Wendy O Williams. Blackberry and eBay completed initial public offerings ahead of the coming tech boom (and crash, who knew page views were not a valid financial metric?). Cracks stated appearing in Long Term Capital Management due to bad bets on SE Asia (the former Asian tiger economies) which would nearly derail the US economy. In music, Elton John was knighted, Britney Spears debut single came out, and George Michael had some troubles in Hollywood. And for @GBassNorth and @theFixer the Offspring released Pretty Fly (For a White Guy).

Unfortunately, I have zero point of reference and can't really answer that. All I can really say is they sound amazing, lol. I'm a recent Gibson convert after playing nothing but P-Basses for 20 years. So glad I gave the Thunderbird a shot - it does everything I tried to make the PBass do and so much more. Once I decide on a pair for the NR, I'll be more than happy to provide a comparison!
:cool::thumbsup:

LOL - no joke, this is the bass I use when we played that song at gigs...

Huge bottom end and totally goofy looking, fit the song perfect.

look at the bright side, you can graduate to one of these!:smug:

Actually considering one of those, but the cheaper variety. :laugh:

We seem to be morphing into a folk/country style group at the moment, and I’m encouraging a couple with ukes to bring them along. It would be a break from unrelenting accordion...
