Times have changed. My daughter who is 15, is having a hard time finding kids in high school that want to play rock.
IMHO Humans NEED music and will go great lengths to have it, it's in our blood.

This said, the Walmart mentality of "I want it now and I want it cheap or free" and William Shockley's invention of 1948 has led us to this;

Boo!

Interesting you mention Geddy Lee. He was on a radio interview the other day and he attributes the death of traditional Rock to shows like American Idol, says there are no talent scouts in the industry anymore hence no collective band efforts get seen or signed.

I've heard Geddy say that too. I think that it is part of an evolving industry. Talent/Idol shows are an efficient means of finding the next pop star that can be operated for a few years making money for the industry (not necessarily "the star").

I think that there remains an underground means for bands to come up. It worked for Metallica, it worked for Greta Van Fleet, etc. Recall that Rush came up without any support from radio (except one station in Ohio) and the media (Dave Grohl pointing at Rolling Stone at the RnRHOF induction).

I have read a couple band biographies, and one item that really struck me was that Rush spent all their earnings from touring on improving their show and tour (but all of the books have some flavour of the same thing). Rush (the three musicians) didn't really earn any money (let alone rock star money) until after Moving Pictures - more than 10 years of touring as a band to that point and already headliners. I am struck by how difficult it is to "make it" in the music business. You have to work hard constantly and consistently over a very long period. And that alone probably washes out a lot of young bands.

I don't see them as an LZ rip off at all, these guys can actually really play live - If you ever saw LZ then you know what I'm talking about.
I also didn't get anything about them being a Zep rip at all. Just good ole raw R&R. I like them.

Said with tongue in cheek. Many are quick to call anything with loud crunchy guitars and bass a Led Zep ripoff.

Some can't get past genre, but I firmly believe that a good song is a good song, regardless of genre.

Look at some of the covers that have been done of pop tunes. For example:

Duran Duran did covers of old Motown songs.

And this is precisely how we got the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin...

Perhaps it is the old fart in me coming out (or maybe just another way that I am different), but I care little about genre these days. I just look for good songs.

Another on my ignore list :roflmao:

Please! My "songs of the moment" play list includes:
Jeff Beck,
Queen,
Korn,
The Clash,
Junkhouse,
Buckethead,
Alice Cooper,
Duran Duran,
Dream Theater,
Primus,
Foo Fighters,
Yes,
Rival Sons,
Winery Dogs...

See I have Rock and Roll bonafides…

I just like a few pop tarts.

Just kidding :)
