Thunderbird Club

TBird saves the day again. I was in the studio for ten hours yesterday and was having some problems getting my parts down right on a couple of songs. I was playing my 88 Charvel 4B with EMG's because those pickups are hot and have tons of headroom. Incidentally, I was running that into my Ampeg SVT-3 Pro into a Hartke 410XL. After being unhappy with my performance on a couple tracks, I decided to switch to the TBird IV because the neck is much slimmer than the Charvel is. For whatever reason, that did the trick and I knocked out those parts. I only had, IIRC, 4 short punches out of six tracks. That helped a lot!

Hey Tbird loverz I, was wondering if this case may fit my epi tbird classic IV if I cut it down in order to make my bird fit on it.

If your looking for a hard case you're as well biting the bullet and getting one of the fitted epiphone ones imo, I've had mine for about 3 years now and it's still in very good condition even though it's been in and out of cars/vans, in the hold on a bus and on the train with me. It's a bit big though but then again so are tbirds

Mine is burst', and I'm ok with that, but if I could afford it, I'd do a refin to something cooler....... maybe something translucent? I like the idea of seeing the wood grain.
Not sure how it would fly, but what do you all think of a trans green top, trans yellow center/neck and trans red bottom. Like the Jamaican flag.:rollno:

Uh oh... Guy an hour away from me has a "good condition Pelham Blue Thunderbird IV with hard case" for $200... Wife's not gonna like that! Just how bad ARE the bolt on Epi Tbirds?

Obviously, with the case it's worth the asking price, right?

Amazon.com: Gator Cases Deluxe ABS Bass Guitar Case (Plastic): Musical Instruments
Sorry, a T-bird won' fit in that unless you cut about two inches off your headstock.
Seriously, why by a hardshell case when you can buy this?

Gator Pro Go...excellent padding, great neck support, plenty of storage, rain cover included instead of paying extra as with the Gigblade, and when you zip it up the walls go from soft and flexible to firm and extra protective.
That's a Thunderbird Pro IV inside, it measures about 2 inches longer than the regular Epiphone T-bird.

I'd jump on it if I saw it within a hundred-mile radius. There's one on Reverb for $450...$60 s&h...no case.
I've had two bolt-ons...still great basses for $300 new.

I could be wrong but it looks like the black carbon shielding paint to me. Does the bass buzz? Star grounding would be recommended as the way to address ground-buzz.

I don't think it is, looks like just stain/or paint. I could be wrong though.

I was planning on shielding and grounding everything sometime here shortly anyway. it does buzz a little, and then buzzes more/less depending on what I'm touching. IE- touching the strings diminishes it a little, touching one of the EQ knobs (in certain positions-which I found weird) makes it quieter or louder.

Ohh, mine isnt that one, so I dont know... mine is the classic pro IV. I still wondering if I should give it a shot im just saying what if I cut the case in order to make it fit, may it work then?

I tried to fit a Goth Thunderbird in that Gator case and it was much too big...even if you cut out the padding top and bottom your bass won't fit. That case has an interior length of what, 47 inches? I'm not sure but I think your bass is 48 1/2 inches or 49. You're not actually talking about cutting a hole through the PVC case itself and having your headstock stick out the top, are you? You certainly wouldn't treat a $500 bass like that, right?

Look around this thread (search option) and you'll see that there's nothing harder than finding a hardshell case for a Thunderbird.
Not to mention, the Gator PVC case weighs over 15 pounds (not sure about the Epiphone case but I'd have to say 12 pounds plus) and the Gator Pro Go weighs 7 pounds. I use my Pro Go for Jazz and Precision basses, too, not only for Thunderbirds...and if I find a nice Thunderbird Classic IV and it comes with a hardshell case the first thing I'll do is sell the case!
