Thunderbird Club

White Thunderbird roduction started in '77. They did have Bicentennial logo pickguards, though.

Mine's for sale for the right offer.

136 were made in 77-78, I've owned two of them.

Dang. Good to know, Carlo. Now I'd be hard pressed to offer you on that one (which I might still do) or get one of your Cataldo basses...

Welcome Off-Beat Like many here you have a great looking Epi Classic in White!
you're #537, post all the pics and questions you like - we all speak Thunderbird here :)

Off-Beat #537

Haha will do starting right now:

As said I'd need a new amp:

The amps I know from equipped rehearsal rooms or friends are SVT-3pro+410cab(used my cheapo Ibanez on this one, but sounded good even with that - out of my projected pricerange, though), several Hartkes of which I liked none(most rehearsal rooms are equipped with these here), a Warwick Combo of a friend, played with a Preci(sounded neutral - might've been the bass or the amp), a Galien Krueger years ago - nice warm sound don't know if it'd fit the TBird.

Last week the room we went had an Eden E300 with a 410 cab. I really digged the sound, but don't know if it'd be enough for a bigger venue than a rehearsal room(read mixed reviews on this one).

My amp atm is a 300w ashdown combo in which my cat peed on(there's a thread on this in the amp section).

So far I'd want to dig deeper into Eden, but no one is selling any heads by them in this country, so no chance to try.
I kind of want to find out what's the fuzz about Fender rumbles.
And I'll surelly check out a Orange OB-1.

Any TBird specific suggestions that accentuate it's tone instead of choking it(which the Hartkes did imo).

btw: I checked a local flea market page for Tbird cases and found a Blackbird(which I'd love to buy just for collecting reasons) for an okay price, but guy had the bass standing on a stone floor and the last pic got me rethinking. Don't know why there's all this foil.

Whelp, Ive narrowed it down to two. I can't afford both. I must make a choice between the Epiphone T-Bird Pro IV and the Classic IV. Both are the same price but the Pro I can get as soon as I get paid on Friday, the classic I would have to backorder. (Unless you know another site other than Sweetwater I can order from that does payment plans without running a credit check)

I bought both within the last half a year. The Pro is awesome in its way, you have more adjustability for tone and hardware, but it's not the "classic" Tbird in that sense. The Classic IV has its distinctive tone. You live and die by that. If you love it you should get that one, if you want more tonal range go for the pro.

My guess it's either there to protect it from buckle rash, or to hide buckle rash already there...

IMO, Edens are pretty much worthless if you want a grindy or overdriven tone. They do clean exceedingly well. My personal faves are Ampeg and GK, because I'm looking for grindy and overdriven. YMMV.

That's been my impression of SWR and Eden. If you want a clean, modern sound they are great but they don't seem to do gritty very well. Of course I haven't tried every model they offer so I can be mistaken, YMMV. Been thoroughly enjoying my Ampeg SVT100 (all tube) and SVT 4-PRO heads lately, but I'm going for a gritty sound with my Birds and they give me what I'm looking for.

Good. Square TBird cases are ****ing huge

Totally agree... But I kinda like my cases being square - The stack better/line up better when you have many of them...

Already have two older Epi cases, that don't look remotely like the (now old) newer ones that's been available for the last 6 years - And though I like my cases to be "matching" I'm not that anal, that I will exchange all my cases for new matching ones... ;)

Agreed here! I have one and rarely use it because it's a pain hauling it around, especially to band practice where I have to maneuver some tight angles to get inside. Of course having said that, it still pales compared to the damned
coffins I have to lug around if I take my Hamer Blitz's out for a gig! Probably cost a mint to find gig bags for those behemoths!
