One day on the Enterprise we had a F4 make a low pass about 100 yards off to starboard, roughly flight deck level, going faster than he should have(BOOM!), went vertical, then came around to land. Went into Sailsbury today, there was a huge police presence and a lot of closed off areas after the recent Novichock attacks, very strange thing to see. Also went into a sort of pawnbrokers to look at some guitars on the wall, saw an amazingly horrible Les Paul alike with a Gibson decal etc on sale for £799, it was horrendous,it looked like it had been made by a drunk Chinaman's lame horse was worth the trip in just to see that, I do hope no one gets conned by it, some little old granny buying it for her grandson as a special present

This is actually true on some runways where blacktop is used or concrete runways where cracks have been filled with tar or expanding elastomer materials. VTOL aircraft typically have special concrete runways or takeoff/landing pads if they intend to do the full vertical dance. Love watching those things fly!

These weren't VTOL. Just that after getting enough speed to rotate they would just point the nose straight up and crank the afterburners. Joy to watch. Felt like an earthquake..
Maybe depending on the weather, we're here south of Salisbury until Monday morning then if its still nice we will head that way, we went to see the Tor and I want to go to Yeovilton the fleet air arm museum
On the subject of vertical take off aircraft, we saw a sea harrier in a dogfight with an Argentinian plane, or a little bit of it, what an aircraft that was, it came to almost a dead halt mid air the get position before they both disappeared over the hills, 2 minutes later the Argentinian was hanging from his parachute I believe

Yeah, we licensed that design. That doesn't happen often in the US military. Perfect plane for the USMC.
Bet the Hurricane was pushin' it to keep up! We have a flight at some of our airshows w/ a P51, F86, and a F16 fly by in formation. Too cool!
Hunters were based at Valley in the 60s, my mums freind's husband was station commander there and flew them a lot when he was younger, loved them too.
Import duty would make that the worlds most expensive Gibson ever I'm afraid otherwise would love it
It makes buyimNg from non EU countries a pain, tax at 20%, mport duty at some variable figure depending on who handles it, carriers fee for collecting these on top of the cost of the ting being bought and shipping. At a guess the final cost would be about $3000 if I was lucky

Mike Lull lent me his Hiwatt a few years back, I don't generally get all juiced up over amps but this was quite the exception, it really sounded fantastic - I hated to give it back to him, but I really didn't have the $$$ at the time.
It lead me to try one of these, but ultimately it wasn't a good substitute.
